I am 36 weeks pregnant with my second child and yesterday at the doctor she said I was 70% effaced and dialated to 2. I know that you can stay dialated to 2 for weeks but for some reason she thinks once I start to go I will go. With my first child I hardly had time to make it to the hospital when I went into labor. I am having a hard time distinguishing contractions too. Sometimes I feel the baby is stretching out and it is uncomfortable and sometimes they feel like uncomfortable mentral cramps. But they are irregular. With my first child the contractions were irregular the entire time and I went to the hospital dialated to 8. The dr. says with your second one you go faster. I wonder if I will end up one of the people who get stuck at 2cm for weeks. But what are some ways that I can try to progress this labor? I heard have sex but I don't know if it really works. But please tell me what in the world I can do to get this moving along.

i have heard sex, doing jumping jacks (i was 9 months and did one jack and was pretty much thru!), drinking certain types of herbal teas (which can be really dangerous!), walking, but its all up to the baby when he is born. i was 39 weeks and 2 cm and my dr. actually scheduled for me to have my second. i wanted an epidural, and he was on call that weekend so we penciled it in. and when i got to the hospital i actually started having contractions!

Honestly, I was four cm dialated and my MD did nothing because I was not full term. He also told me & I have heard that there is nothing you can really do to progress labor. Sure there are the tricks like sex, spicy food, walking, but they are no exact science. The baby will basically come when you are good and ready. Certain activities might increase your pre-labor contractions, but those crazy babies just come when you finally stop thinking about it...then all of the sudden...your water breaks or you are in full labored contractions.

36 weeks might still be a bit early, but walking always helps get things rolling at that point (effacement wise). If you're 1st delivery was super speedy, you might want to do your walking near the hospital. At the very least, make sure you're prepared for delivery at home and have emergency numbers ready. Good luck!

If you are only 36 weeks, PLEASE dont do anything to bring on labor yet! Your baby would still be considered a premie at this point. PLEASE wait until at least 37-38 weeks and then discuss it with your caregiver. EVERY DAY that your baby stays inside you right now is a GOOD thing.

I was told sex because of something in the man's semen, and orgasms cause the uterus to contract... also walking!
