While I don't see the beauty in this style, I'm not too offended by it. I'm more concerned with the lack of discipline of today's youth. I'm also appalled by the absence of manners being taught to young kids. I guess I was raised differently than many from my generation and this one following it.

Please take note that I'm not referring to everyone. There are exceptions and there are some really nice young people out there today. I just don't get many opportunities to meet these particular few.

I know what you mean. My car was in for a service the other day so I had to get the bus home. And whilst standing at the bus stop the Academy pupils were just packing up school for the day. I counted only about twenty boy pupils who didn't have either their trousers hanging down and their guts showing.

And most of the girls were not much better, most had low cut trousers with their midriff and the rings through their navel showing. I don't think that any of them had polished shoes and most of the boys needed a comb through their hair.

Though judging by the look of the cloths their parents must have paid a small fortune for them. I do not blame the youngsters I blame some parents who have never taught their children the meaning of dressing for the occasion. No wonder the teachers have a hard time of it.

Only a very small minority were smart and looked and as though they were dressed properly for school.

But have you noticed how the black Caribbean community take a pride in their appearance and the children always look well turned out and smart.

It's a misguided attempt at fashion.

Unfortunately, they don't realize they look bad.

It's like how people in the 70's wore bell-bottoms and long hair, or in the 80's women began wearing shoulder pads and bras without shirts. In the 90's it was the grunge look, which I feel was by far worse than this era's choice (at least this generation showers... sometimes)

It has become a social norm among teen-agers, and like all trends this one will eventually pass, but their is always the possibility of something even worse replacing it.

My boyfriend's little brothers wear their pants like that, but they also wear clothes that are sized for a 300+ lb man when they are like 130 lbs. My favorite part is the t-shirt long enough to be a dress. I don't get it or find it attractive either.

youth are the future of the planet show us some respect just like you expect respect for living through the 2 world wars, expect the very youth your talking about to give up a seat in the bus/train etc etc. unlike other 'adults' we are not killing innocent people through the clothes we wear. just close your eyes if it upsets you so much!!!!

The funniest thing happened once. My mom and I were at a stop light at a busy intersection and this thug kid was walking across the street with his pants down and boxers showing and as I commented to my mom how stupid that looked his pants fell down to his anckles and he was in his underwear. Everone was laughing and honking and it was so funny. I was so glad that happened to one one those guys.

But it is "fashion" Not for us. Not for my kids either...I refuse to let them out of the house looking like welfare cases. What was "fashion" back in your day was questioned too I'm sure.

It dates back to black skinny people being let out of prison wearing their old oversized, ill fitting prison trousers (supplied to them by the racist white American government). These gangsters were 'cool' tying in with the gangster rap popularity boom of the mid 90's. Youngsters emulated these ex cons by wearing oversized clothes. So, yes, fashion

Why did people wear Shellsuits in the 80's? We all have bad taste at some point.

I hate to tell you but (brace yourself) it is fashion. I agree, it really looks ridiculous when you see 15 year old guys with their pants hanging off of their butt cheeks and 15 year old girls dressed like streetwalkers.
