the new nintendo wii comes out in the fall. its expected to be only about $175. cant beat that for a brand new system. the new xbox and new playstation are 500 and 600 respectively. if you go with a current system(xbox, gamecube, ps2), youre running a risk because each of the 3 companies have or are about to release the next generation. the wii would be great for a 7 and 9 year old. nintendo knows what theyre doing. look into it. it has a new controller concept that even a non gamer would be interested in trying(looks like a TV remote and has another piece for your second hand with motion sensory). your kids would love you haha.

The best game I would recomend is CLAW. This 1997 vintage game is the best for anyone. it's about a pirate who is set out to find the gem of 9 lives. Yes, you guesses right, Captain Claw is a Cat.
Infact, every character in this game is some animal but they have a human like build. Your kids will the 2D and the 3D versions as well.
But I am sorry to say that Claw is a computer game, I think you can get its CD from any game store. Have fun with your kids.

Nintendo DS lite would be $240 USD for 2 hand held systems which they would then be able to play a range of games plus a few educational things like Big Brain Academy on. The advantage of having two hand helds would be for long car trips, waiting at appointments etc. They would be able to wifi each other within 30 feet to play together, or they could do their own thing. There are a wide range of games available in stores and on ebay used some of the prices start at $5.

I wouldnt go with Nintendo. Every system has kid frienly games, and your kids are in a couple years going to want to play things a little less kiddish yet still appropriate. Get them a ps2, its like 100$ and there are literally thousands of games to choose from. While Sony is releasing a new system here in a few months, it will be years before the used game market dries up. Good luck.

I agree with andrew, the Wii has more games that are rated E, some rated T but practically not rated M. Most games for PS3 and Xbox are rated T/M and some are E. Wait for the Wii to come out, don't buy the gamecube because they will stop making those games.

Leap Frog has come out with a new game system that you can find at Wal-Mart Circuit City or Target. PS2 is very good as well ,their are a lot of children's games and even interactive ones that allow your children to be active indoors.
