Blair is coming for a lot of stick. Is the problem that he is lacking essential things that anybody needs to be a successful Prime Minister, e.g. previous experience of minsterial office, managerial experience before entering Parliament, personal resilience to stand up to powerful foreign leaders, relevant qualifications (e.g. in economics or finance as opposed to law), sheer intellectual ability (e.g. ability to get a 1st. Class Honours degree on a minimum of work)?
In short, in personnel terms what would your Person Specification be for the position of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom?

P.S. For Waiching Liu and others. If I recollect rightly Tony Blair has a 2nd. Class Honours degree in Law. The Tory Cameron has a 1st. in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, as did the former Labour PM Harold Wilson. Mind you, a degree is not everything: in my view Jim Callaghan, who did not have a degree, had more common sense than most.PMs.

ok, im enjoying this allready, because of the number of things im thinking about.
1. Raw intelligence - Either a maths phd, or physics etc, and the ability, to learn befor office to solve the rubics cube.
2. Sexual intelligence - The ability, to walk into a bar/club, and within 2 hours, come out having oulled both a man and a woman, separately or together, on the understanding, that they are being taken for a meal...
3. Must be able to stand knee deep in sh1t for 12 hours (really wants the job, and has a good amount of nerve)
4. Must be able to answer GCSE level anything, and get a C.. d not being a pass.
5. Must have served, or be willing to serve 6 months, in a front line combat position, as a private.
6. Must agree to slash 5% off the defence budget every year, not in real terms, but in actual terms.
I dont think ministerial is usefull, and only leads to the quicker induction of back handers, i belive they should have no ties to the civil service, or parliment.
Honestly, i say hand the whole lot back to the queen, and just let her do it...

Experience of life. You don't get that when you leave university and go into parliament. The problem is again with Dave the hood he has no experience of life. Its great to have a 30 something get to be PM but they have not seen life. !st class 2nd class what does it mean you can keep information stored in your brain. So Blair did law. That's why his lawyer mates have good jobs. The country is a business. It has to be run by people who understand business, not by people who happen to have degrees or are put there by the PM. How can a person who has never had to borrow to have the gas on understand what a pensioner is going through on a cold winter night when the choice is food or heat. They make me sick with their caring for us all. They care only for themselves. Blair has no experience of life and until he or Dave the hood gets some they will never make great PM's.

It's not about qualifications, it's the invasion of Iraq and support of G W Bush against the wishes of the vast majority of the British population.

i don't really know, but whatever it is tony blair lacks all of the above. if i had things my way, then for me he/she- whoever is prime minister should have a qualification; likewise an honours degree in politics. yet our tony is too stupid enough to obtain one, let alone deserve one.

In Short, a human being who has been one of the 'little people' and understands how we live our lives, and what's important to us. Honesty, Integrity, and compassion would be good too.
I don't care how many bits of paper someone has with his /her name written on. It doesnt mean they are a decent human being!
