my baby is seven months old but he is in no hurry to grow up. Don't get me wrong - I love the fact that he still isn't into anything but I just wondered what the average is for boys to start crawling. I know girls do it so much faster. He just seems not to care at all. I'm not trying to push him into it I just wondered when I should expect it.

He will probably crawl within the next 2 months. However some babies do not crawl at all, they go straight to walking.

I think "normal" age for crawling is 7-8 months, but there's a wide range of normal (and a wide range of what people call crawling). And honestly, I've never heard that girls crawl sooner than boys. Girls generally talk sooner, but I thought that physical milestones were pretty comparable.

My older daughter sat early (4 months), but was pretty happy just sitting there. LOL! She didn't start tummy crawling (army crawling) until 9 months and didn't crawl on hands and knees until 10 months. She was starting to pull up and cruise on furniture before she could crawl well. Then, even though she was great at pushing her cart around, she didn't take any walking steps on her own until 13 1/2 months.

My younger daughter was much more physical. She started crawling at 8 months, was pulling up on everything by 9 months, and never really cruised on the furniture much. She went straight to walking at 11 months.

Before you know it, you'll be chasing your little guy all over the house!

My son is 6 months & just started crawling (backwards LOL), but has been pulling up to standing for a while. *Most* babies will crawl between 6-9 months, but all babies are different. Somebody mentioned the "What To Expect The Toddler Years" but you aren't quite there yet, go buy "What to Expect, The First Year" & it has catagories like: "What you baby *should* be able to do", "May possibly be able to", "May *even* do this" for every single month :) Great book & worth the money.

My son is six months and crawling...I think it's because when he was just weeks old I had him on his stomach playing around. Babies do things at different times though...my suggestion is to have him on his stomach as much as possible and he'll get the hang of it. If he cries, its just out of frustration...leave him there and he'll calm himself down...I know its hard but it's the best thing to do. Also...some babies don't even crawl...they just start walking one day. A good book to get is What to Expect: The First Year or The Toddler Years. It gives you estimates on where you child can/should be developmentally and physically, as well as answering many question you may have on the way. Good Luck!

My oldest son started crawling with 6 months and walking with 9 months, his little brother just started crawling a few weeks ago and he is 10 months now, so there is no average.

My boy started to crawl 2 days before he turned 7 months old without any sign. At that time he can't even sit without support yet. Now he is 11 months old, we tried to train him walking.......he just doesn't interest in it at all.

I believe soon or later, when he wants to crawl, and he will be. 7 months not crawling is not late, some of my friends baby boys started to crawl at 9 months of age

My son was crawling by the time he was 6 months. Then again, his cousin is 8 months old and does crawl yet! He just sits!

I've heard that if they're not working on their ability to move and crawl, then they're working on their vocalization of things. So don't worry about it-- If he's not crawling, he's probably sitting there soaking up tons of information!

My son didn't crawl until 10 months or so, didn't walk until 16 1/2 months. It is all normal. Kids do things when kids do things.

Trivia:
Why did the Germans decide Kindergarten (meaning garden of children in German) start at 5?

Because that is when all kids "catch up" to each other. Parent magazines and doctor offices I think scare parents into thinking their kid is the only on who is behind and something is wrong. 99% of the time nothing is wrong.

All babys grow at a different rate. But most babies crawl around 6-7 months what I would suggest is more time on his tummy. And put some toys just out of his reach. That way he will want to get to them and it will encourage him to reach his goal.
