Do they make a lot of money?

Most of the physical sciences should be helpful, especially Earth sciences. Math is critical. Don't neglect physics, chemistry, ecology, geography and geology.

Computer programming? That doesn't fit in, the programs are being developed by computer specialists so that the weather scientists can concentrate on the research and forcasts.

As far as making money, it, of course, depends on where the meteorologists gets work. A grunt working in a government facility will not earn as much as a chief researcher at a university, but neither one of them will earn as much as whatshisname on the morning national news program. But that's show business, not science.

But, certainly, a GOOD scientist will find a place to do his work. And it takes a strong effort to learn the craft in school to eventually become a good scientist.

You'll need a lot of math(calculus, trig, etc.) earth sciences and
computer programming. I suggest you check into your local
storm spotting group for interests. Depends on what type of
meteo you want to be forensic, forecast or on air in a big tv
studio, tv is where you can make$$$.

Here are two sample course course listings. If you're not very good at math and hard science, you've got an uphill battle.
