I have 1 outlet for an extra monitor on my laptop & i've connected 2 monitors with an adapter but they both display the same screen. Can I change that?

First You must check to see if your graphic adapter allows this option or not, if so then it must be configurable in the display settings window. Right click on the desktop and click on Properties and then go to advanced tab. It really depends on your graphic adapter manufacturer. Whether it is nVidia or ATI or someone else. You can also use FAQs of your manufacturer's website. I know about nVidia. You can configure it in the settings tab of the display window and then clicking on the advanced button. A window will show up that has configurations of your graphic adapter and there is a place for multi output. It is easy ... and also the thing that Thor hast said is right.

Under the Display properties, click on the Setting tab. Move the cursor to the bottom of the window and click on Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor.

Since you have split the ONE vga port in the back into TWO, that means it is sending the EXACT same thing out the splitter on both monitors.

You could have you laptop monitor extend to BOTH monitors (showing the eaxact same thing) but that is it.

The VTBook PCMCIA card will allow you to extend your desktop to multiple monitors (up to four) all with different stuff. Expensive, but good.

some photos taking part in cards have 2 categories of outputs, in case you have one (like Me) you need to use the s-video out as a show source to your 2nd visual show unit, you are able to pick an adapter to connect yet another VGA visual show unit yet they are obtainable decrease priced. solid good fortune!
