The best ones have "teddy bear" brushes, which have really dense bristles and are fat, but tapered at each end, designed to separate and lengthen.
I always come back to "Maybelline Full-'n-Soft", no matter how many different types I try, and it's very inexpensive!
And they ALL will get clumpy in a month or so.

I have naturally looong lashes, but I still use mascara to define them. They get noticed with the following products. I have tried ALL OF THEM and these are THE BEST. No clumping and anything that sticks out funny can be easily combed out once with a eyelash brush.
First, a coat of Cover Girl Professinal Natural Lash Curved Brush Mascara in Clear to seperate and place the lashes. Top and bottom lashes.
Second, a coat Loreal Lash Architect Straight Brush Mascara (I use Black Noir) to give length and volume. Top and bottom lashes.
Lastly, to perfect - a simple eyelash comb (any brand works!).
Also, the NOT waterproof kind has proved easier to work with!
Good Luck finding one that works!

I have been going through the same thing. Although after you have used a good bit of the bottle, it tends to start to dry out which causes clumping. The best brushes are the thick full ones. The new waterproof covergirl professional is a great one. You'll like it.

I've just switched to Lash Out from L'oreal and it's great so far. I live in South Carolina, so I have to worry about the humidity, but this holds up really well. No problems with clumping either.

Lash Envy by Prescriptives and NARS mascara are my favorite! They are awesome!
A good trick is to swipe the wand with a tissue and then re-dip it into the tube for clump-free application!

Without a doubt, Blinc Kiss Me Mascara is the best mascara out there. It goes on easily, doesn't clump, never runs but comes off easily with a washcloth. It's expensive but worth every penny!

Take the new Lancome back and exchange it for their best ever and most fabulous "Definicles." Then you won't pay anything extra.

It does not matter to me what kind of mascara I use, I just apply, then brush through with a toothbrush. Repeat.
