I've been seeing a lot of Americans write about their "freedom" and such things. Is America really that "free". From what I know, a lot of European countries give a lot more freedom to its citizens than America. In Europe it is unconcievable for a government to be able to listen in on my phone calls or any of my records. Are Americans really free or is it just what they are led to believe by their government?

By European I mean Switzerland, Checz Republic, Germany

the government will record your phone calls if you call certin places like the Al Quada HQ in Afghanistan or Saddams Torture Chamber in Iraq, but if you are a law abiding citizen, you have nothing to worry about. Also because we dont allow people to smoke weed legally does not mean we dont have any freedoms, if i must remind you most european countries took the freedoms granted to americans and gave them to their citizens.

America is Germany rewritten from 1920 into 2009. We have lovely little concentration camps set up all over the USA to cure the "poor" problem. We are slaves to our jobs, opressed overworked, depressed and up to our eyeballs in hot air and bull shi..., For those who don't beleive me study your history and know INSANITY IS doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. America is not free, it is facists bullshi...led by the elite roman bully style government that the Catholic church so long ago practiced.
So please help me wake my people up Europe.

By the way our calls have been tapped since the govt had phone taps so dont fool yourself, they been listening and spying for awhile and are quite good at it.

Some good news is there is a small awakening as the liars become exposed and I see people knowing that if they lie about that what else did they lie about? We all know that the politicians are liars, evil and theives, so now we know not to beleive any of them.

I have no idea what other countries you're thinking about, but in most European Countries the government is allowed to invade peoples privacy without the people knowing about it. At least in the USA even the President can get in trouble for breaking the law. You only hear what goes on in the USA because the news is much more open and vocal in the USA than any other country.

I stay in u . s . a ..Theres alot of issues that makes being an american beautiful.think of approximately it you could take your new child to the park devoid of a few nut activity terroist coming by using with a vehicle bomb.definite we do have freedom of speech. An each and every so often it particularly is taken somewhat to a techniques. we've freedom of press meaning our media isn't censored.definite we do have our themes and each so often we do decide on idiots to run the government, yet we are in elementary terms human. If the liberty of u . s . a . wasnt so useful and beautiful then why is it that refugees flock in boatloads to come again here. Or flock to the borders to come again in to the rustic. Why is it that u . s . a . is the 1st one a catastrophe section and the final one out. Why is it we've troops international extensive attempting to guard peoples rights? Its using fact human beings beleive that each and every physique has the flexibility to compliment who they pick to be interior of themselves. in keeping with risk you will basically might desire to be born here to understand what freedom somewhat potential.yet no human beings are not deluding themselves. Its the congress and politicians who're delusional.

It's funny.......a few years ago, when I used to warn people that we're not that far from having ourselves being monitored by the government, people used to look at me like I was crazy and say "This is America!" as if that nullified all of my arguemnts and concerns. Now, with the government actually doing what I was crazy to even consider possible, the same people defend the practice. Go figure.....

Actually thats not accurate.

Most other countries listen in on calls all the time..
In some its part of the world its part of the routine.

In fact even here, its only on calls made to & from middle east...there is no listening of calls of calls made to grandma/pa in Texas from Kansas, etc....

Especially so if u recieve a call from a known terrorist area or number.

There is no loss of freedom for those not doing anythign with middle east...

America was free, a long time ago.

And as government slowly closed in on people, most of them never realized how much of their freedom they have lost.

If you never get up off your couch, then everything outside your front door can vanish and you won't realize that it's gone. It's by attempting to exercise your freedoms that you realize how much constraint exists in the world.

Forced medical insurance, drivers licenses, permits to go camping, govt access to any personal records, sneak-and-peek warrants, speed limits, FCC regulation, business registration, school registration, medical registration, pet registration, gender-based discrimination in marriage, effectively limited to two political parties..... not to mention proposals to control what people eat, where the sleep, how far they can drive... people don't challenge those limits, so they forget how limited they are.

We only have those freedoms we choose to defend. And only those rights we can defend.

Americans are some of the most oppressed people on Earth but they don't even know it. They are fed propaganda and rubbish about patriotism and freedom from the time they can wave a flag and they are trained never to look outside their own borders lest they see greener pastures. The poor get poorer and the rich get richer; only in America! Pity.

We are much freer than Europeans:

- free to carry firearms in self-defense
- free of multi-party political systems
- free of the same level of social welfare systems
- free to start businesses and to see them succeed or fail without future repercussions
- free to choose amoung thousands(!) of excellent institutions of higher-learning (read - universities and colleges)
- free to move our place of residence every 7 years (on average)
- and quite a few more significant aspects of daily life that aren't generally discussed when comparing political-social systems and differences
