Do hetero sexuals choose to be straight?
I mean Christian theorist beleive You are not born gay it is a behavior and a choice. SO by all means isnt it the same thing. Heterosexuality is a behavior, Heterosexuals choose to sleep with the opposite sex that they are attracted to. Despite the fact they were born being attracted to who they were attracted to they choose to have sex with the opposite sex therefore heterosexuality is a choice.

Why the hell would gay people chose to be so different!? I have a best friend who is homosexal and he would give absolutely anything to be normal but he was born the way he was and there is nothing that he can do about it. Gay people do not chose to be gay, they are born that way.

Very good question. I think we all make a choice depending on the circumstances that influence that choice. Some straight married people one day discover that they prefer to be with someone of the same sex. I don`t know if that is a choice or a decision they could not make earlier in life. Whatever the reasons, whether we are born or choose to be who we are, the important thing is to be happy.

Homosexuality and Heterosexuality are not behaviors, they are sexual orientations. You don't choose your sexual orientation. You can force yourself to have sex with whoever you want...but why would you want to do that? Also, people get hung up on the "sex" part of it. A relationship, no matter if it's gay or straight, is about much more than sex. It's all so out of hand these days...I mean what does "Ted and Joan" have to do with "Mark and Dave's" relationship? Are "Mark and Dave" hurting "Ted and Joan" in some way? Whats the big deal? "Ted and Joan" need to mind their own business and live their lives...and let "Mark and Dave" do the same.

This is a good question. As a Christian, I'm not sure about your "Christian Theorist" comment but the reason many people, Christian or otherwise, say you 'choose' to be gay is their assumption that it is 'normal' to be hetero thus gays must 'choose' to be gay.
I feel that we should spend more of our dollars into research on this. Much research (and my personal opinion) is that people are 'born gay'. It will help us understand the entire human race better.
Peace,
Billy!

The really funny thing is that this way of thinking provides support for the accusations leveled at "good Christians" for being hypocrites. If it were a choice (which it is not) then they are judging, no - condemning people for decisions they've made. Condemnation and judgment are powers reserved for the Almighty, which to me seems as sinful as taking the Lord's name in vain! What does the Good Book say about that. . . For shame!

I think you choose to live your life the way you want too. But I do find it hard to believe that homosexuals would choose to be gay with all the hate that some people do to them. Maybe they are born that way? The thing is no one is ever going to know that answer. So why trip off it?

I don't think orientation is totally due to nature. There is an interaction between biology and social forces. And therein, I agree with you: there is no choice. The biology is strong in of itself and the social forces interacting with the biology are often barely noticeable, especially to a young child who is unaware of what is going on.
Homosexuality, bisexuality, and heterosexuality all = biology + social forces surrounding the developing individual

Good point, but I doubt that anyone could tell you the exact moment in time they "decided" to like the same sex or the opposite sex. Why? Because it was an inherent preference, just as some people value humor and others lust over blondes

Just some advice from a gay man, I would stop trying to figure this out. Be who you are gay or straight. You will never win on this subject. I think religious people have to have this subject to preach about so they can cover up their wrong doings, keep the attention on someone else.

Bigots always use the choice argument to deny gay folks civil rights. But nobody wants to deny religious freedoms to people who choose their own religion.
