I've read some articles on this and it seems that venezuela's president Hugo Chavez along side with syria oppose American Imperialism. Which leads me to 2 questions.

If Venezuela opposes us and since may the US companies stopped selling military equipment to Venezuela, why are oil companies still buying from Venezuela?

What impact will the opposition of Venezuela towards the US have on those of Venezuelan heritage here in the US, will they be attacked verbaly by some Americans that like to generalize?

This is not meant to be a Bush bash but he and Chavez have something in common. They both have a base of supporters that they cater to. With Bush it's primarily the Christian right. With Chavez it's the less well off, the people that you see living in the hills that surround Caracas. Both tell their constituents what they want to here and both like to demonize other world leaders or exaggerate threats in order to galvanize support.

The US gets 10% of it's oil from Venezuela. Venezuela on the other hand exports 30% of it's oil to the United States with a lot of that being distributed via it's own gas stations (Citgo). I don't see that changing any time soon. In the meantime there are still full diplomatic relations between the two countries.

As for the last part of your question, I have a Stepmother and sister who are Muslim and a girlfriend who is from Venezuela. I'm normally not a violent man but G*d help anyone who ever attacked them, verbally or otherwise.

Firstly..
Yes , Hugo Chavez has become a dictator and seeks to establish
some kind of Faschist Anti -American block in South & Central America...
Secondly..
For now, the ongoing oil contracts involving Venezuelan oil sales
to the USA will continue as the US has not placed a trade embargo on Venezuela ( CITGO is owned by the Venezuelan Oil Company )
Thirdly, your concern about being attacked verbally by Americans seems like a perfect example of the generalization you are afraid of......How would anyone know you were of Venezuelan heritage and why would anyone care if you were an American and acting like an American...

What you are hearing is true. Hugo Chavez has said many times that he would like nothing more than to see our downfall. He has also said that every superpower only lasts for so long...

Unfortunatly, the almighty dollar is more important to our country than patriotism. The oil company Citgo (which is ran by Chavez) has just as many gas stations here as anyone else. Do americans as a people boycott? Nope, again... we like our SUV's and huge trucks too much. The bigger the better.

There really isn't much of an impact on Venezuelans here. Chavez has been in power for a while now and has been anti-American most of his time in office. Most Americans don't even care about that. They do however generalize that all muslims are evil and may be carrying weapons of mass destruction into our Wal-Marts.

Chavez is making a world tour, its unusual for a strongarm dictator. But he eliminated any competition follow the 2002 coup attempt so he knows its safe for him to leave, he won't be replaced while out of the country.

Although he is generating a lot of press for himself alligning with countries like Syria against the US's imperialism, it shows how ineffective he is as a true leader.

For one the US does not have, nor does it show Imperial tendenceies. The US helped many other countries overthrow the colonial governments, even if only through example. He is using the rhetoric of the weak; lies.

He is also allying himself with Syria. A country of little influence and consequence (think of New Jersey with a lot of sand) who does not support or understand Chavez' marxist philosophy. They are allies of convenience rallying against the US.

And Chavez, as a dictator, may speak for his government, but his views don't necessarily reflect on the people of Venezuela.

i have not considered the movie yet have examine most of the makers writing (John Pilger). the U. S. has hostile democracy in South u . s . of america because puppet governments enable US organizations to exploit South American labour and puppet governments enable the U. S. to exploit the commerce courting with South u . s . of america. The CIA have already admitted involvement in attempting to overthrow Chavez, who's as you rightly say a democratically elected chief!!! the U. S. authorities are at pains to demonise him and portray him as some type of Stalin figure even as he became infact elected with more effective majorities than any President could ever wish to get. the reason being that Chavez like another leaders have realised that previous dictatorships have exploited the persons and saved them detrimental. really than continuing this fashion Chavez needs to apply venezuelan wealth to improve the lives of the detrimental (the various) and in no way purely the lives of the wealthy (the wealthy). it is thoroughly hostile to US doctrine which promotes capitalism and would not favor to help the detrimental and needy. Chavez is a socialist yet compared to Marx or the different socialist. Chavez needs the persons to help theselves yet he will help them in doing so. an exciting statistic is that there is now 100% literacy in Venezuela because of literacy classes presented through Chavez. anybody now has a shot at ordinary preparation. Chavez needs to apply the country's wide oil wealth to improve the country as an entire really than purely lining the wallet of the country's correct oil experts (US type). maximum folk persons electorate purely can not face as a lot because the very truth their governments have supported numerous brutal dictators in countless South Ameruican international locations which have presented about the deaths of 1000's. the U. S. in ordinary words help democracy on their words (therefore they don't help Chavez who became democratically elected). the U. S. also concern the ability of South u . s . of america. South u . s . of america is a sound asleep commonly used. If it were to unite interior a similar way as Europe has then they'd be a significant power contained in the area. As all of us understand, the U. S. should be in ordinary words huge newborn on the block and could not stand through idly because the recent newborn stakes his declare. Even now Bush helps the Colombian authorities which utilises deaths squads.

Im gonna make my answer short because im sure your tired from reading all of those 1 thousand word essays.

Its a 3rd world country barely industrializing. Its army is weak and shouldnt be too worry-some. Now the real problem is. Hugo Chavez has a mentality like Ahmedadadadad(iranian president) and if one wants nukes...the other will want it too. And if they get nukes...then there neighbors will get them too.

That mean many countries will have nukes. Its a dangerous situation.

Oil companies buy oil from Venezuela cause they want to still have money. Dont think it will impact anything to much cause this is nothing new. They have opposed America for years.

As a former resident of Venezuela and now a proud resident of the USA I have to warn you: Chavez is a crazy, psychotic, paranoid, ignorant man with a silver tongue. His audience has always been the huddled masses and he will continue to talk to these people. His perfect audience is a socialistic, comunist or religious extremist country, in which people believe that "the man" is oppresing and all that.
I still don't understand fully what his goal is, but I know one thing, he is addicted to power.
His power is convincing people that most westeners are evil, specially the US. He will rally people to his side.
The only way to kick his butt is to show that he really doesn't care about the poor but only about himself.

I have not yet been called out because of my heritage and I hope it doesn't happen. Before Chavez, Venezuela was Switzerland.

Citgo is owned by Venezuela. As long as the people from Venezuela that are now Americans support America then there will be no problem.

The US government has already booted Chavez out of office once. The people revolted and got him back in. Venezuela may be the next country the US tries to discredit with lies and accusations and may even be the next one they attack. They do have oil! Now, why would Chavez not love America?
