I'm having a hard time deciding what to study in university. I really want to be able to work in space industry. I've been thinking about aerospace engineering for a while now, but I'm not sure if it is the best way to go. I don’t have much time and I’m really confused and the more I think about it the worse it gets. So can anyone help!? Please!?!?

I think you are asking yourself the wrong question. Yes or no, and their relative rationalizations dont answer the question behind your question.

You want to do something you love. Space industry hires many different types of engineers: Materials, Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial. They hire meteorologists, and accountants.

If you havent worked in aerospace how do you know you will like it? You dont know. You might end up hating the pressure & the contract-work or the political depencies of the market. Right now you dont know it, and until you try it out you cant know it.

Making a decision based on getting there, not knowing if you are going to love it or hate it, is a bad idea. BAD IDEA. You are basing the next 40 years of your life on a yet unvalidated idea. Think about that.

My suggestion is this: one step at a time. Pick a field you love. Go through the catalog and circle all the courses you always wanted to take, or could live working in them for the next 20 years, being sure to be able to live with their pre-requisites too. After you have made that looong list, find the degree program that has the most of those courses in it. Thats the degree you want.

If you do what you love, you are more likely to actually graduate. When you get in the real work world it wont matter as much if you can or cant work for scaled composites or nasa because anywhere you work, that really wants to hire you, you will be doing what you love. It gives you many plan B's that you can have some confidence you will love.

Nobody around here can make that choice for you. I have been there too and sadly i made the wrong choices too. although i dont really regret it. I like to think, I have become a lot smarter because of it. The best way for you to really know which way to go is actually talking to people who are in the field of study. Good Luck:)
