How do stars move in the night sky?

When the sun sets in the evening the stars begin to shine in the sky. We are familiar with the Sun rising and setting and the Moon appearing in different parts of the sky.

But what about the stars?

During the day the sun is so bright that stars cannot be seen. However, they are still there in the sky but do not shine brightly enough to be seen.

Stars are so far away, any movement through space is difficult to detect by the naked eye, or within the human life span. Stars do move though. Star movement, called proper motion, changes the shapes of constellations dramatically, but is noticeable only after tens of thousands of years. Astronomers can figure out a constellation's past and future shape by precisely measuring the position of its stars over several years.

Stars are all in relative motion, although for most the movement is barely noticeable. Our own sun travels at approximately 9 meters per second through space, taking the planets of the solar system with it.

Yes, the entire universe is moving - expanding actually. So our sun, part of the Milkyway galaxy is moving, as is everything else.
By star did you man our sun or another celestial body?

Stars, like the Sun, stay static within the universe, but actually rotate very slowly, thus creating a gravitational pull which planets orbit (travel round).
