No offense, but its a stupid question. Terrorists are brave. They are also callous, ruthless killers with an agenda that most of the world considers utterly immoral. That's why they are dangerous.

Calling terrorists is just rhetoric, frankly. Most terrorists would probably be delighted to have the numbers and equipment to fight the US in a straight up battle. Lacking that, they operate from the shadows. Would you call french resistance fighters cowards for striking out at nazis from the shadows? Clearly, they risk their lives for what they believe to be the benefit of others - so they are brave. But that doesn't make them commendable - it makes them dangerous.

For the people who say they are cowards because they are sneaky, I presume you think special forces units who operate behind enemy lines are 'cowards' compared to, for example, B52 bomber crews. Right?

The two aren't comparable and don't even exclude one another.

If you believed that the military is evil and wanted to argue that all American soldiers are terrorists, then you could ask that question- soldiers (and not just American) vs terrorists, but as it's currently phrased your question isn't valid.

Terrorist is an occupation, not a nationality. Being American is simply a matter of birth- most people have no control over it. Bring a terrorist is a matter of choice, like being a carpenter, teacher, police officer or drug dealer. And some Americans are terrorists- remember the Columbine shooters, the Unabomber, Timothy McVeigh and the Beltway snipers?

Being a terrorist is not simply a matter of being the smaller force in a fight, like the french resistance fighters. Resistance fighters go after military targets using guerilla tactics to offset their smaller numbers. Terrorists target CIVILIAN populations and choose targets like hospitals, elementary schools, restaurants and movie theatres. Why? Because their objective is simply to kill as many innocents as possible and terrify the civilian population, not to remove military targets. The french resistance fighters attacked Nazi patrols and military operations, not school buses full of pre-schoolers.

So someone standing up and saying they're an American doesn't tell people anything about whether they're good or bad- it just reveals where they were born. No one assumes that all people from a country are janitors, or priests. We know nothing of what that person believes and whether they are honest or crooked, law-abiding or violent & abusive, simply based upon which side of a border they were born.

On the other hand, standing up and saying you're a terrorist is like standing up and saying you're a rapist, child molester, or heroin dealer. It's a declaration of which actions they choose to take with respect to other human beings, so people will respond accordingly.

While I can say all terrorists are evil, I can say nothing about the personal qualities of all

The terrorist -- Doesn't have the balls enough to look his victim in the eyes and kills himself to avoid the pain.

It takes a lot more courage to stand up and defend your actions than to blow yourself up. Taking a stand where 99% of the people think you are an idiot takes guts (or insanity) but look at the Americans who fight every day for what they think is right. Whereas, the stupid terrorist blow up random people so they can get their ugly virgins in their so called paradise.
