I'm sure they received something for being on TV and the longer they stay, the more they get. Except for the top 2 who get a pretty good chunk, it's not a lot for the others. I'm sure they have to work it out with their employer as to the time off and nope. And yeah, the second place gets a prize also. Just like on Survivor. The longer you stay the more you get.
The answer below me is WRONG
P.S. Erica really, really, really screwed up last night. Boogie and Will just make me laugh. How does everyone fall for their crap?

I am not sure about previous seasons but I read they get paid like 4000 a Week in the house and 5000 a week in sequester. I have read the first person in sequester (Marcellas) will get paid more than the runner up. Not sure about the people evicted before sequester though???

The only cash payouts that the general public is aware of his the winner, and runner up. The rest of the contestants are considered extras and since they all have speaking roles as opposed to extras who are in commercial or television who don't speak, ( are just in the background scenes.) Extras with speaking roles always get paid it varies according to who did the castings and if there are other perks offered. Most of the people who answered your question fall under the category of "general public" and don't know the facts....

Some (few) reality shows pay the players a small stipend. However, players know ahead of time that they have to leave their jobs.
Think there's so much reality TV on because the public is clamoring for it? No, it's the huge amount of money the producers save by not having to pay actors.

In the past, the 2nd runner up receives 50 grand, so unless they've made changes, it remains the same...and yes, they are compensated for their time in the house, it's decided by the length of their stay....Big Brother is making big bucks for the show, and they wouldn't have a show without the houseguests....

They get paid for how many weeks they stay in the house. Once they get into the sequester house they always get money.
