"We want to cooperate to build a new world where states' and people's self-determination are respected," Chavez said after a 2 1/2-hour meeting with Assad at the presidential palace.

Don't you find that kind of statement being made in the capital of a Baathist goverment highly contradictory? And this from a man who supports Castro and Iran?

That statement is very unusual considering his solution for the 2002 coup against him was rather drastic. If he is truly for self determination why did he eliminate many politcial parties (and politicians) in Venezuela.

I think his world tour is farsical becuse he his sole purpose is to legitimize his giovernment while unermining US relations with those countries. He is an avowed Marxist on a mission to arab countries who do not share his political vision.

All that this guy wants is international fame which he already has, and besides he would like to be in history as a big leader, what he doesn't know is that he's going to past to history as a big clown with no circus. To have so much power and use it wrongly leads you to ruin your life sooner or later.

This is for Playtoofast, don't go that fast if you don't know hot to play. I was in Venezuela, working, you just have to live the reality to say an opinion, Chavez is that truth what you're talking about, to take him as a flag, he's not a man who seems to be, he's a big liar, he's a fraud.

As a former resident of Venezuela and now a proud resident of the USA I have to warn you: Chavez is a crazy, psychotic, paranoid, ignorant man with a silver tongue. His audience has always been the huddled masses and he will continue to talk to these people. His perfect audience is a socialistic, comunist or religious extremist country, in which people believe that "the man" is oppresing and all that.
I still don't understand fully what his goal is, but I know one thing, he is addicted to power.
His power is convincing people that most westeners are evil, specially the US. He will rally people to his side.
The only way to kick his butt is to show that he really doesn't care about the poor but only about himself.
The answer above me is completely biased. My home country of venezuela has become poorer and more illiterate since Chavez' reign.

Look up my question about the Danish cartoons (go through my profile). In police states they had mass demonstrations against them. And they were interfering with free speech in Denmark. They want peaceful self-determination? Stop sponsoring terrorism and disinformation in the Western media.

These people are very dangerous, if for no other reason, because we can't trust they mean what they say.

Sounds like George H .W. Bushes statement when he was President saying that he will make a New World Order. I guess all of leaders in the world have to be watched carefully.

Chavez is a man hated by the american government and press. It would seem there must be some substance to what he says otherwise we would not of tried to kill him several times .
HIS human rights program and bringing the people of his nation an education and representation and being successfull scares american leaders .
WHy should we care that poverty is on the decline in his country and civil rights and education are affording oppertunity's to the people .
Maybe america is scared that the systimatic theft of natural resources that belong rightfully to all the people and an increase in our own poverty level to 47million is something to be proud of .
WHY do we fear a socialst forum of government so viamently in america .
SCARED to acknowledge that by allowing people to exist on an equal footing will some how make us weak is all i can assume .
ITS not a question of the strong survive because we have jailed the strong taking what they want but left the weak with money to control us .
THE strong take what they want without regard to anyones rights the weak sneak around and take it when you are not looking .
WAKE up and see what billions in fraud are doing to the security of older americans and how insurance has become a private tax upon americans we can not afford to be with out as we no longer help those in need .
havez is a threat if he represents the truth .
THATS what america fears .

Chavez is a dictator and a thug who oppresses his political opposition.

And when the hell did "we" ever try to assassinate him? Why even try? The price of a bullet is worth far more than his life.
