I feel as though there is so much more that I want to do before I go to sleep and I just can't stop thinking about things. First I need to pry myself from my computer and then it can take me hours to actually get to sleep.. Any ideas?

1) Do you wake up tired but as the day wears on, your energy slowly builds? Your mind works very fast, sometimes so fast that other people are idiots 'cause they can't see what is so obvious to you?

2) Do you sometimes go long stretches without at least 5-7 hours of sleep?

3)Do you get really down or really, really happy or agressive towards people?

If your computer is in your bedroom, move it. Stop your computer use after say nine p.m. The same goes for smoking, drinking & watching the Idiot Box (T.V.). Take a warm shower, do some light stretches and prepare your bed for sleep. This tells your body it's time to start relaxing.

If you answered "yes" to all three of the top questions, you may have hypomania or a form of bipolar disorder. Don't freak as it's easy to treat. I have BP am being treated by a great doctor w/ very gentle medication and am a highly functioning individual. I generally get to sleep by 10pm and still get everything done!

You aren't the only one. It is hard to shut my brain down at nite too. Work, running errands, bills, I should be cleaning house instead of on this. Everything is so fast paced these days. Other BS. I personally take an hour before wanting to go to sleep some Benydryl. Ingredient in Tylenol PM without the tylenol. Diphenhydraminne 25mg it will say in the ingredients in over the counter sleep aids. Its non addicting, but do not take it with alcohol!!! Dollar General has their brand, walmart has theirs, or just but Benydryl caplets. If you don't want to do that, take a warm bath or shower, and force yourself to turn your computer off. Some of us just feel like we have to make the most out of our waking hours, and that can drag us down. Hope that helps.

Before you try sleeping pill remedies. which are a lost resort.
You must a schedule of when your mind will shut down. it is trained to keep working .and that is what it will do. don't drink any caffeine.after 5 or i6 .because it stimulates the minds ability to go on and on. thoughts are more readily moving through the mind.
Drink decaf tea .. fruit water. crackers and cheese. either read a good book. or watch TV. a nice quiet show... retraining takes time. If really unsuccessful. Tylenol pm has always helped me. .. but i have trained my brain to unwind. Of course if I am very stressed out.. i have trouble too. practice meditation for five minutes. before you go to sleep. And Always think good thoughts

do you drink alot of caffeine during the day?? If so i would cut way back on that.....or maybe try a sleep aide for a little while. I enjoy a nice glass of wine b4 bed (maybe 2) it relaxes me and I sleep like a baby... But they also say if you have ur puter in your room move it somewhere else or the tv move it also....never eat in your bedroom..Just associate your bedroom with sleeping and nothing else...

Set up a ritual and stick to it! For example, take a hot bath or shower, read, drink warm milk (avoid sugar, pop, caffeine) and then listen to nature sounds in a dark, cool, room on a comfortable bed and drift off....zzzzzzzzz. Good Luck!

Get herbal over-the-counter sleep aid (one with Valerian extract..the capsule form works best).....helps relax and falling asleep faster/ easier....it's herbal...not drowsy making in the morning at all. I took it for about a week...and then I stopped...because my sleep pattern went back to normal.

Friend, in spite of it being easy in the beginning, don’t go the pharmaceutical route. I’ve tried this approach and it took years to get my body strait. In the end, strenuous exercise was the only long term fix. The easy path only works when it takes you where you want to end up. I’m sure you don’t want to end up on sleeping pills with your short term memory fried.

you may not get all done the things you have in mind. but you can surely do a lot after you get out of bed. avoid the trap of thinkin i'll do this, i'll do that later. just do what you needed to do. you may need to check your priorities as well. remember: first things first. you may also have to discipline yourself. procrastination sucks.
