For modern cars? Jaguar, by far. Jaguar's styling has always been distinctive--it's classic elegance everyone recognizes. They have everything Cadillac lists as extra (leather seats, CD player, factory alarm system, seat-back tea trays, full-service spare) as standard equipment on their cars. Their engines have British engineering backed by American reliability, and their ride is absolutely the most comfortable one you can get in any sedan--but they still have a nice amount of power.
Most modern Jags get about 23-25 mpg (less it's a v12), and they are much less inexpensive to repair. An electromagnetic shock absorber on a Cadillac will cost you $900 to replace. Jaguar's electromagnetic shock will only cost you $400. Not to mention the better market value and more shallow depreciation rate.
I will always believe that Jaguar--with a few exceptions--is much superior to Cadillac.

Well I have owned one Cadillac and currently own two Jags. Both cars have their virtues and their shortcomings. In terms of looks, I don't think there is any question that Jaguar is the hands down winner. Jaguar has a history of manufacturing among the most beautiful cars in the world. In terms of comfort, the quality of finish in Jaguars tend to be higher and more pleasant to the touch, but both have comfortable seats, and comfortable suspensions--though Jag suspensions tend to be a little firmer and much more nimble. In terms of mileage, it really depends upon the model.
Now Jaguars are more expensive to repair than Cadillacs, but they are much more reliable than they were a few years ago. Ford's acquisition of the company brought with it a good bit of quality control that was previously absent.
The fact is that they are really two entirely different kinds of cars.

I would say Cadillac. I work for a Cadillac dealership in the service department and they are good sturdy cars. If you buy one used as a certified pre owned you will have a full bumper to bumper warranty for 7 years 100k miles. New the warranty is 4 years 50k miles. The parts are not as expensive as an imported vehicle if they do have a problem out of warranty and they are easy to work on. Besides they are very comfortable to drive long distances. The Escalade and CTS are the mose popular but the XLR is fun to drive.

Well for the money and true market value after 3,5, or 10 years, its the Jag. Money is a bit more secured even though its got great American influence especially after Ford's recent intervention.
American cars do not hold their value, their ergonomics are garbage, technology is very neat but covered in a plastic shell which kills the fun of it. Jaguars have more demand in the market and have better styling.

A cadillac. It runs better, breaks down less often and its also cheaper to repair. A jag repair costs a arm and a leg. I know because owned one of each about 4 years ago and got rid of them when I moved. Will buy a caddie again but never a jag....I mean it NEVER and if someone gave me one for FREE I will sell it real fast. Looks, comfort and millage doesnt count if its high to maintain and breaks down to often. Realibility comes first..... Always.
