He has made agreements with syria to resist what he calls US imperialism. Why he say that? We are not trying to take over the world, just countries that benefit our wealthy.

Chavez is a committed Marxist, along the lines of Castro. He was identified during Clinton's term as a potential problem. Since he knew he was targeted by the US since before he won executive powers in his junta he accused the US of running the coup against him.

The result of the coup led him to eliminate any potential resistance in the armed forces and many of the alternate poltical groups have been eradicated.

He uses anti-american rhetoric to gain political favor in his country and throughout south america. With the US being out of favor in many arab counties he has used this to his advantage to become a world figure. But his influence is still limited although he gathers a lot of attention.

He's a nutcase, that's why.
He hates and despises our country... but he'll take our money for the oil that we buy from Venezuela.
He's so busy making partners with other countries that don't like us either, (Syria, Cuba, Iran... it's just a matter of time before he's probably in the sack with North Korea).

Chavez is not all of Venezuela and he doesn't speak for all Venezuelans. My girl friend if from there and I have friends who live there. When I was there everyone treated me with courtesy and kindness. For someone like your first poster to say "Venezuela is dirt" is beyond ignorant.

Chavez is concerned about maintaining his own dictatorship over his people. He is paranoid the US will take him out and install a real democracy, so he's making friends with the only countries that would ally themselves with him.
