A tongue piercing would DEFINITELY hinder her clarinet playing. The reed has to sit on your tongue and the piercing would rattle against it. I've had both and I can say without a doubt that tongue hurts worse. The nose was just like getting an earring.

No one else can really answer this for you, as everyone's experience is different. For what it's worth, my tongue piercing didn't hurt at all to have done, but the week after wasn't fun, as your tongue will swell a lot, and talking will be somewhat difficult. (After it heals though, you should be totally fine.) As for nose, are you talking about your nostril, or septum, or somewhere else? I've had my septum done twice now, the second time hurt a bit more, but it still wasn't that bad. Really, you should just get whichever you want more and not worry about the pain factor.

Both are bad. My friend had her tongue pierced, she said the pain wasn't so bad until the next day when it swelled up. She said it felt like her tongue go slammed in the car door. And later that month she got an infection in it. What a terrible smell that is, especially when she talked to you. ( I can only imagine the taste. ) and she said the pain from the infection was just horrible. And a girl I worked with had her nose pierced "years" ago and ended up with an infection just recently. Her nose looked like a raw piece of meat. Just remember, whether its a new or old piercing, you always always need to take care of it.

I think that the nose ring would hurt the most. I'm only saying that because I had my tongue pierced twice and it didn't hurt at all...As far as playing the clarinet I don't think that it would intefere once she gets use to it b/c then you can barely tell that its there. My best friend has had hers since we were in high school and she played the flute...

I guess I just went to a really good place because I didn't feel a thing when I got my tongue pierced and had no problems afterwards. I don't have anything to compare it to though as I've never had my nose pierced. : )

Tongue, definitely. Couldn't eat or talk for a while. And yeah, if she plays the clainet I think it could interfere.
