Race had nothing to do with the state and federal government's incompetence! The whole racial thing came into play as an excuse for not getting help that those people desperately needed. Granted the majority of residents in New Orleans were of color, but that doesn't mean that help would have gotten there sooner if they were all white. The government messed up and failed New Orleans- Bottom Line!

No logistic issues and the underestimation of damage caused a lot of the issues. The biggest cause for the overwelming harm is that people dont/wont follow instructions and evacuate. A friend of mine drove an evac bus for 18 hours prior to the disaster and was returning to base less than 10 % full each run. They finally had him and the others leave 6 hours before it hit so that they could be clear of danger. The very next hurricane that hit key west the news interviewed a gas station owner who wouldnt evac because he was afraid of being looted. We dont learn obviously. The larger the population that didnot evac means the larger the rescue force needs to be. New Orleans just plain ignored the warnings and paid the price, They multiplied the rescue needs to the point of stagnation and caused the slow response by overwelming the effort.
You noticed the warning at Galveston later that season, Mark yourself with permanent marker so we can ID the body since we wont be coming out in the storm to assist you that stay.

In a way yes and in a way no. Its sad to say but majority of the people left in New Orleans were black now why did they stay do they think they are immune to the effects of a cat. 5 hurricane? I do think that the govn. reacted differently than if the hurricane had hit an area like Virginia or a primarily white area. ALOT should lay on that worthless mayor that they re-elected to hello he sat there and didn't bother calling anyone and saying "hey Ive got like 10,000 people in the super dome and we have no food and no water and people are dying." how hard was that. its disturbing how people think one life if more important than another which simply isn't true. I know that there were white people stuck there too, but the lower class black were the ones that decided to stay (there were buses taking people out of there prior to the hurricane hitting why didn't they get on a bus). I hope that people learned there lesson and will leave when they are warned to leave!

No, I think that if the Mayor and Governor had requested help from the Federal Government like they were supposed to have done...THEN help would have come sooner. It is the governor's responsibility to call from reinforcements from the FED. I think if Nagin (Mr. Chocolate City) had evacuated the city effectively in the sight of a CATASTROPHIC CAT 5 hurricane, there wouldn't have been so many people killed and stranded on their rooftops. I think if the money that is sent to N.O. wasn't pocketed by corrupt local politicians, it would benefit the citizens a lot more...

nope. ya see there is this thing called common sense.
i grew up on the texas gulf coast.
everytime i heard there was a cat 5 hurricane that would hit within 100 miles of me,
I got out of there.
its like sitting in a car on a railroad track and a train left chicago doing 55 mph, its now a mile away from you and blew its whistle.
do you stay in your car? (it has 3 flat tires, no gas, no engine, the cd is broke, the tape player munches tapes, the trunk is open and jimmy hoffa's body is in it, the ashtray is full and the headliner fell down a year ago. PLUS, there are 18 kitchen utensils with sharp pointy tips pointed right at your head).

hmmmm, stay in the car or get out?

flip a coin?
rock paper scissors?
or use a little common sense?

Nope. Help got there as soon as they could. Now , Do you think if New Orleans had another mayor, help would have come sooner?

Absolutely NO.. Remember, the Mayor was black.... He's the dude who messed up on the evacuation. So why would we want to think it is a racial issue? He should have been on top of it. He had all those buses available, but was worried about not having enough drivers with CDL's at a time like that? I don't think so. !!! People want to blame the President. Well, it all begins at the bottom and that's where it should have begun... Hopefully everyone learned lessons in this tragedy.

Absolutely not. It was incompetence at all levels of government and was never directed against a particular race regardless of what Al Sharpton, Kanye West or anyone else claims.

Please....try not to instigate anything like what think there is...you're not helping. No blaming game this time. If you want to help and if you care, think of a better way to comfort the victims and a better way to raise awareness to people who can help. A year had passed and this is not the time to any finger pointing.
