I'm male and when I was younger I cheated a LOT. Simply because sex with different women was hot and I knew I had my girlfriend.

No I have never cheated and I will never cheat because to me a relationship is based not only on love but also on trust and respect and I love and respect the one I love far to much to betray his trust with someone else and take the chance of losing him.

It depends upon your interpretation of cheating.
The physical act of sex is not what causes most guilt but the connection of the mind and hearts. (Though, I dare say, if the sex were so intimate as the interaction of the hearts and minds, I would assume the original relationship would be doomed to failure.)
The difficulty also arises if you have conditioned yourself to think that you are incapable of such deceit, yet find yourself in a situation which you are inexplicably drawn towards. The trust in your own integrity then becomes compromised and you fear your own emotions...

cheaters are people who are insecure and afraid of commitment.
Commitment requires effort---it means to stick through thick and thin--that means even when you aren't having fun. I can't understand how you can enjoy sex w/out emotional attachment and connection beyond physical pleasure. Perhaps that's why men and women are so different in this aspect. Men want to throw their infinite amount of sperm on every fertile ground, where as women, with their "fixed" amount of eggs want men who will stick around!
