There is more government oversight in America than in any other country that I've been.
Laws are more stern.
We have more enemies than any other country.
You can't smoke, can't drink, can't sunbathe naked, can't step on the grass, I mean we seriously have so many rules about what we can't do, why are we free?
Freedom of speech is practiced in a lot of other countries. That's not it.
If we are to be considered the land of the free, we have to make sure our lives are not shackled.

We were first. The United States was the first nation to throw out a monarchy and establish a democratic republic where the people had inalienable rights.

Recall that that line comes from the US Anthem, written in 1814. In 1814, we were the only democratic society on Earth. We were THE land of the free.

Obviously, times have changed, but we've kept that as our 'motto'.

Probably goes back to the American Revolution, when we fought for our independence against the British Crown. It may also have to do with the fact that our Constitution is the only manifesto that establishes a government based on the guarantee of rights rather than the denial of rights.

As for your question about freedom, it's very relative and it's really a misnomer. No one on the planet is truly free to say or do whatever they want, and that's necessary. If we were truly free, our society would de-evolve into one based on the law of the jungle -- survival of the fittest. Those who are stronger would take what they wanted from those who are weaker by force and would have no qualms about killing anyone who got in their way. We need certain laws to protect our citizens. Now, as for the law against sunbathing naked...well, what's the harm as long as you're at a nude beach that is appropriately marked or in your own backyard where no one can see you?

How many of the other countries you speak of have opened up their borders to all races, ethnic groups and the world's downtrodden like America has? How many other countries that you speak of are oftened refered to as a melting pot?

That's why it's considered THE Land of the Free.

Note: If you want to sunbathe naked, go to a nudist camp. If you want to step on the grass, use your own privately owned lawn. I don't get the "can't drink, can't smoke" part of your question - I'm nursing a beer and smoking a Marlboro as I write this - and no one has smashed in my front door yet to haul me away.

In your personal life you are free to smoke, drink or bathe naked. But when society is involved then some restraints have to be put in place.

You've made a point here and I concur.

You are free to live your life and earn a decent living. You are free to put food on your plate and gas in your car. You are free to have a family and you are free to NOT have a family. You are free to practice whatever religion you want, you are free to NOT practice religion. You are free speak your mind. You are free to vote and elect your government, you are free to NOT vote and elect your government.

What is so hard to understand? Obviously you have the freedom to not even read this and you are free to disagree.

If you want to sunbathe nude, come to Canada. Women are free to walk around topless and braless in certain cities if they so choose.

Please, feel free to comment!!!

It's because we're free to be sued by anyone we offend in any way. Really, it's a good point. This isn't the land of the free, but a nation of laws.

It's called media and public school brainwashing.
Unlearn what lies you have learned and seek truth
through Jesus, when you ask he gives, but be ready for
what you will see when taking the "red pill" cause it's not
pretty and you will see things you don't want to see.
Be a stripe not a star.

It has to do with showing pride for your country. If we allowed all the "freedoms" you mention, we would have a disgusting country. Rules are important to preserve a decent way of life. You know, you don't have to comform. Move to Amsterdam or something. They're pretty lawless there, but it's gross with drug addicts all over the place. Maybe you'd fit in there.
