take for instanvce Ring. The Japanese film was awesome, and very scary. i haven't been scared like that for a long time. perfect film in my opioion. But hey, along comes some American company and remakes it! Do they not like subtitles? Do they not like anything that doesn't have english speaking in it? WHY?! and dark water! another classic. And The Grudge! Every time! WHY?! It annoys me when people say "I'm not watchng the origional because i have seen the remake".Sorry. This is more a rant than a question but I'm sorry, it's just its one of those things that really gets to me you know?

I saw all those movies and many more foreign ones without ever having heard of the remakes. wird of mouth and certain web based dvd shops help.

If the original was already good, they know that it could be a good movie in English. Also, as you've already said, many people don't like subtitles and so they rarely watch foreign movies. When I insist that my family watch a foreign movie because I thought it was really good, they don't want to watch it because of the subtitles. Also, many people only like the Hollywood movies. Why? I don't know...maybe they like the formula movies, or they think the production values are better.

well,the grude and things like that where a remake from the same Japenese director.Right?But even so it really doesnt matter a business is a business like anything it revolves arouond money, this people want to make money and if you have the japenese version and the american version and people such as yourself enjoy watchin both(americans like that too)they will make alot more money. also the people to the west apperatly for you see peopl they know how they are and if you think about it logicly would you ever hear about things if they werent a remakes

Hollywood also re-makes its own movies. It's all a matter of what the suits at the studios think will sell.

because they are trying to get the people that watch foriegn films in the theater they think if you paid to see it once youll pay to see it again plus i heard tom cruise is remaking the eye with jessica alba thats gonna suck
