Nope. My girlfriend at the time, my best friend and his girlfriend decided to do something even more fun. We pooled all of our cash together and we rented a house boat for a weekend and just hung out swimming, boating, fishing...it was so much better than going to the prom.
Granted the logistics of it was a nightmare with coordinating who was staying over at who's house, etc., so the parents wouldn't catch on with what was going on. But not only was it just a lot of fun, it really marked for the first time how it felt to be independent and do something "adults" would do, and for that I believe I will remember it always.

No I had a great night any way. Me and my friends loaded up in the car and went into the city to see a punk show. I was 17, there was live music and slam dancing. Then the Skinheads showed up started some problems, then the cops came. We left before it got out of hand. But it was hella exciting. I don't ever regret not going to the prom. it such a tired and cliche mating ritual implemented by the last generation's expectations.

No, missed that rite of passage. Or rather, was held back.
A great friend of mine, Terry was the biggest football player on the team. About 270 lbs. of love and muscle. We used to go to lunch in his little Bug (how he fit into it I can't remember) and listen to Prince's first album.
He asked me to the Jr./Sr. prom and I said I'd think about it. I would have said yes, but I was thinking about my father. When I went home to ask permission to go, M&D said okay. When I mentioned he was black, my dad said, "Over my dead body." An arguement ensued and though my dad won, I never quite looked at him the same.
It was a huge, huge drag telling Terry I couldn't go. I felt dirty and ashamed.
