Im a fashion designer. Been thinking of setting up a website to sell my garments but was just wondering what the market is like for this? and whether I should include high end brands on the site to enhance my label? any comments or ideas?

I've bought *tons* of clothing off the net, shoes included. Most of my friends do, also.

I'd include the high end brands, but also have more affordable items.

Put some things on Ebay for awhile & you'll get some name recognition out there. You'll be *amazed* how many people buy clothing off of Ebay or just window shop to see styles & prices.

Good luck!

Well considering retail is suffering due to the internet I would say that there is a pretty big market for it!! The only problem that I have had with buying clothing off the net is that the clothes always look completely different for real than they do in the pictures. So maybe the advice I can give you is to keep the pics true to life so as not to mislead your potential customers! Good luck

I have, but only from stores that I know. It is difficult to get the sizes right and if it is for women forget trousers as they are hard to buy in the shops. If you look at sites like yoox.com their sizes are different to regular sizes and brands like Toast come up a size too big. If you do sell stuff on the internet make sure that you have detailed close ups and can zoom in on the product. This is the only way of telling if something is well made.

I do.. I agree with the others who said to try ebay first and see how the land lies with your items. If they sell well then go for your own site. Make sure you put detailed sizing as there is nothing worse than buying an item in say a size 12 (for us ladies) only to find its a very 'large' 12!

Good luck with your venture.

I don't like to buy things via internet. I still feel unsecured, but I know most of the younger do purchase goods via internet.

I had a friend's friend selling swim wear at eBay and she is doing well.

Cost for branded goods via internet, I don't think it is a good idea. None branded goods are more sellable here.

I would if I had someting from that designer before because of the fit.. I buy Lands End items because they are true to fit and that is the selling point to me. But, if something didn't fit, what would your shipping being on returns, exchanges and turn around time....

I have bought three items off the internet before and it was quite an easy process although I was a bit unsure of what I would recieve and in what condition. I think you should give it a try and ask your customers for their feedback to figure out what you should do..

Yep, and I do. The only clothes I have bought over the internet were T-shirts which were hard or impossible to find in stores and that was a fun and easy experience.
