No it is not a complete waste of time. It don't hurt to give your advice to someone that is asking for it. Sometimes opinions and advices does help out. It could be addictive but not to me as of yet.

Often I find myself reading and answering questions for the sake of it - so yeah I guess it IS a form of addiction - but a highly enjoyable one and you actually learn a lot from some of the answers!
