he should try to get a working visa from his country. the visa usually last for about 5 to 10 years depending on the situation he is in.
once he is in the united states, http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/index.htm
this is the website for immigrations. there you and him can look at what is the best offices you can go to and figure out where and what you need to fill out.

Unfortunately the way things are going in the USA regarding illigal immigrantion, the only option he may have to get a work permit is for him to go back to Honduras otherwise he risks getting deported and that would not be a good thing to have on his record. It would make it all the much more difficult for him to obtain any kind of visa. Perhaps marrying a citizen is an option?

I have no idea; but as far as I know there is nothing we can do right now; before it used to be "marriage" but they (immigration) supposedly close that law, I think if he was outside the US and someone from here marry him he can come legally, but now that he is here I dont know. You should ask and expert because many people say many different things and nobody is sure about what's going on. I wish I could help you more, but I cant; my friend is in the same situation and we dont know what to do either.

"Marrying him" is no guarantee that he will be allowed to stay in the US. The INS deports or detains scores of immigrants every day who married a US citizen thinking it would grant them the right to live here.
The INS from time to time will offer a period of amnesty for illegal aliens to register and apply for legal status in order for them to reside here. If one of these periods becomes available, take advantage of it.
I would suggest that you consult with an attorney or paralegal who specializes in immigration issues to find out your best options, but if your friend is in the US illegally, or overstaying a legal entry visa, he's asking for trouble.

he needs a green card, ( a permit to work )
to get one he needs a education & a Professional Skilled Trade that is needed in the USA that can't be filled by someone there for some reason. Good luck with that

Two options I can think of:
1) See if he can get refugee status of political trouble in Honduras.
2) See if he can get a green card by finding someone who'll sponsor him as a live-in worker/laborer.

OK you if he is illegal, there is no way to get him legal work. He has to be legal first! This is why so many illegal immigrants are working here, you can't get them to understand that!

He needs to go back to his home nation and apply for legal permission to come back and work. Vouch for him and and it should go a lot faster. But to do it legally, he HAS TO GO BACK FIRST.
