i just found out my sister is going to get married to this man she met on the net. They have been dating for 8 months now, and she says she's sure he's the one but i am worried he will turn out to be a liar and hurt her again (she's been divorced twice, both times was cheated on). she says he's wonderful, sweet, considerate and leaves her room to breathe. I say he's doing it because he's not with her, and i worry that when he marries her he will let his true color shine through. They've only seen each other once before and they are getting married now, help!!!

he lives in alaska and we live in texas, so yes it is a long distance relationship. She seems to have lost all common sense since he promised her he'd never cheat and yes, i have tried talking to her but she'll avoid the subject. The wedding will take place in november and he might as well be one of those pervs who are glued to the net 24/7 and don't have a life!!!

Check the guy out on this site. It may cost a bit, but atleast you'll know a little more about him:

I'm not sure I understand. You say they've been dating for 8 months but have only seen each other once. How can that be? Is it a long-distance romance conducted by email? If so I'd also be worried about this marriage. He might well be a lovely man but she won't know that till she's spent some proper time with him.
You sound like you've got your head screwed on - why don't you meet him and then decide? Your own common sense will tell you better than she can whether he is OK for her. And if you still have reservations let's hope she listens to her sister's concerns.

well, I know several folks that have met on the net, including my present friend and myself. Just because people meet on the net, doesn't meant they're crazy. Maybe he really is a good guy and not some whacko freak.

I do agree though that 8 months is way too short of a time frame for any relationship to go that far, internet or not.

Do whatever you can to stop her. 8 months is not long enough to get to know someone in person, let alone on the internet. She will be seeing his true colors after they get married, and who knows what he's really like. Please, try to stop her, or at least tell her to give it more time because marriage means forever, and I know things don't always work out that way, my marriage didn't work, either, but if you can prevent a divorce, why not?
