Of course I am a first time mom and we always want to think our kids are genious' but at 6wks could he possibly? Or you think hes mimicking like a parrot? This is only a small part of my video. he also says hi to his sister when i ask him to. Hes also trying to say the word grandpa now but he just grunts the sounds. We talked to him when he was in utero and I think that may be the only reason hes so good at the word sounds..

also, we talk to him like an adult and when we pause he starts making noises like hes trying to respond. and hes uber happy when this occurs too. Big smiles!

First of all, congratulations on being a new mom! You're son is adorable! Regarding his speaking capabilities at 6 weeks... I feel talking to him in utero is always a great idea and young infants and children absorb things like sponges. I believe he is mimicking the words he hears, which is how children learn to speak and communicate, but he may understand your reaction to the words. Regardless of the theories, it is amazing that he is speaking so young. Keep up the good work- you will be amazed by everything he does.

Well... a baby's grunting and other sounds that they make do sound like speech. People who make their living studying these things determined that a long time ago. There are certain sounds that are common in all languages for a reason, we all have made those sounds from the time we were born.

I suppose there's a chance your baby know's what he's saying, but I doubt it. He's just making the same sounds that all babies make. That's not to say he is NOT a genius. He'll probably grow up and the one to come up with a cure for all forms of cancer. :)

As the father of the world's most perfect 10 year old, let me just say, babies are really special and it is a joy to watch them grow. You know that, your baby has an older sister. Just enjoy watching him grow up without putting undo expectations of him. :)

I'm not sure he understands what he is saying but he is trying to communicate with you. My 3 month old sounds like he says mom ALL the time. I dont think he knows he is saying mom but he does realize he is saying something and it gets a response out of me and his father.

So as long as he says Hi, keep saying it back to him. He is learning a lot of things by it even if he doesn't know what he is saying.

That is a very cute baby, I miss having babies. Anyway, I didn't see anything extraordinary about the video, except your baby is way CUTE.

I think it's completely normal baby behavior. He is way too cute though.

I didn't see that he was "saying" anything, just the typical baby coo-ing. He's very cute, though.
