I am registered for Bowie State, which is in Maryland, and my classes at Bowie started 8/28, abut I am still not there because I am out of state and they did not have housing available to me on campus. I could still try to attend Bowie and just live off campus with my grandparents or my father who lives with his mother in Maryland, but to do this I would have to take 4 metro busses to and from the University, which I really do not want to deal with. have come to the conclusion that the only other thing I can do at this point is to withdraw from Bowie, at least for the Fall 2006 semester and try to take classes at a community college or something around here for fall 2005, then try to get back into Bowie for Spring 2007. But I need to know how to withdraw from Bowie before they start to charge me for the classes. Because if I am not there I do not want to have to pay the bill. So how do I withdraw for 2006? I called the registar office, but it just gave me a recording

Withdrawal from Bowie State University

Official withdrawal from Bowie State University after classes begin and before the end of the semester requires that the student complete an Application for Withdrawal. Veteran students should consult the Veterans Services Coordinator for special regulations.

A students who wish to withdraw completely from the BSU must seek an appointment with his or her dean as part of the withdrawal process. Students withdrawing must have a written clearance from the listed offices. Completed withdrawal forms should be submitted to the Office of the University Registrar's Office to be input into the system.

Failure to officially withdraw from BSU will result in grades of "F" for the courses in which the student was enrolled. Students withdrawing from BSU after the last day to drop a course may request to receive the grade of "W" (withdrawal).

You will have to go through the registrar's office and fill out the withdrawal paperwork. It can not be done over the phone. I would suggest that it is worth the 4 metro buses for a larger goal, but as long as you are attending *somewhere*, I think youll be ok. There will always be excuses and issues that have to be overcome in life to succeed. The most successful people don't let obstacles such as transportation stand in their way. But if you're at the community college, that's a good alternative and a less expensive way of racking up core curriculum to transfer in. Also, the classes at a CC tend to be a little easier. You'll have to get in to the registrar. Leave a message to be called back. If there isn't that option, call the undergrad advisor in your department and they should be able to help you get a human being on the phone.

You should call again. You have to get it taken care of quickly because if you don't it could mess up your chances of enrolling somewhere else. Since it is in the beginning, you shouldn't have any problems, but if you wait it makes you look irresponsible. They could end up charging you foor a percentage of monies owed for being irresponsible. Just keep calling until you get someone. Maybe you should call the financial aid councelor and tell him/her that you can't reach anyone in the registrar office. I hope you get this taken care of, we don't want anything holding you back from getting an education in the future. Good Luck!!
