It is true that they are infinitely more secure than systems running Windows, however, NO operating system or program is completely immune to hacking/viruses/etc, not even Mac.

How: um... if you get a virus on a Mac, one of two things happened:
1. You suddenly became retarded
2. A very experienced hacker made a very efficient virus

Why: Same reason somebody hacks Windows, for fun or for theft

Bottom line: They can get viruses, you just have to be a complete moron to allow the Mac to get one.

Yes, Macs, like any other type of computer, and and does get viruses. The advertisements that Apple is putting out right now is a half truth. There are many (many, many) more viruses out there for PCs but that is for a number of reasons, the most important one being that there are many, many more PCs in use than there are Macs (or Linux systems for that matter). There are some coding standards that do make Macs more secure, the most important being that the web browsers isn't an integral part of the operating system like IE is to Windows, but OSX, Windows and all flavors of Linux are susceptible to viruses.

That is a link to Version 10.0 of Norton AntiVirus for Mac.

If macintoshes were immune to viruses, WHY WOULD THEY NEED an antivirus program, let alone "Version 10.0"

You have, unfortunately, encountered a mac bigot who will just plain out LIE about the virtue of his computer.

Yoi55 has the answer wrong.

It's not "more difficult" to right a virus for a mac (actually, it's quite easy)

Virus writers want their viruses to spread. So, they write them for the more popular choice.

Mac is the 40 year old virgin. a reduced chance of virus, because nobody wants to use him.

Windows is courtney love = Plays with EVERYONE.

Im sure they can, but if Im someone writing viruses I dont want to spend all my time writing one that will only infect 5% of the computers! I want to do one that will infect 95% of them. Thats the biggest reason why there arent many out there for MAC's.

They very well can, but the creators of viruses usually don't write them for Macs because it is more difficult and not many people use them. They write them for Windows because it is very easy and MANY people use it.

They can, just not as frequently due to Windows heavy market share.
