yes, as the skin grows (all skin dies and is replaced eventually) and/or stretches, the splinter will work it's way closer to the surface and even come out

Use a dab of triple antibiotic ointment on the area (it's the basic antibiotic ointment, really) or a squirt of a disinfectant spray (like Bactine) if you think the wood might be treated with something weird (any chemicals or stain, really). Most splinters don't need this, and you can just leave them alone, but if you think there's a chance it's better than an infection... something as little as a splinter is easy to treat, but an infection would be a lot worse. Stick a little band-aid over it to speed up the process of it working its way out (like other people have said), and change it regularly--every day is good, so the band-aid doesn't make the splinter go in further. Other than that, just leave it alone, and it should work its way out in a few days. =]

Doug is Correct .

You may be able to speed up the process by having a band aid over the splinter for a few days ( But replace the band-aid every day !! )

I hope it isn't treated wood...that will cause a heck of an infection...if it does, lance it and treat with antibiotics.
