one day i was playing a music video on videocode.com, and all of the sudden, the sound went off, and now nothing has sound, including itunes. i know it's not the speakers themselves, and i checked all of the connections to the computer.

I had a similar problem to yours, and when I went to the computer store they told me that I needed a sound card? Because apparently mine was broken. You can also try the Control Panel and the audio options, to make sure none of the mute boxes are checked. If not, you can always call a computer place and they will help you step by step to fix it :) Good Luck!

Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type dxdiag, and then click OK

DirectX Diagnostic Tool is designed to help you troubleshoot DirectX-related issues. There are soundcard tests included.

try checking the device manager and look for your soundcard, or check if the soundcard driver still installed correctly, if not, try reinstalling it.
