I am an Assyrian Christian from Iraq. I have lived in America all my life. I've lived in Detroit and it's suburbs which are two totally different cultures. In Detroit I was treated well but there were some situations where I was treated differently for not being black but nothing really major. My problems arose when I moved to Warren, MI where it's predominantly white. I was treated terribly and called all sorts of names like Sand Ni**er, Camel Jockey, and all sorts of other insults. I know the government considers us White but I never felt that way. I always felt like a minority. I've also lived in Warm Springs, Georgia where it's fairly multi-ethnic and I was treated greatly by both blacks and whites. I noticed it (hostility ) to be common in places where it's a white majority. They seem to look down on minorities. That is my impression. I've been to many cities across the US and that has been the case. In the case of Mexicans they think I am Mexican so that's never been a problem.

I wouldn't consider those nationalities as white.

But I'm not prejudice. People are people... skin color is irrelevant.

I never understood the purpose for calling other people names and categorizing them. Logically I can only assume it's to try and boost their own ego for a lack of common decency and humanity.

People and their labels suck, don't they? However, according to Wikipedia, "[t]he term Caucasian peoples is used to describe a peoples speaking native Caucasian languages, as well as various other peoples that live in the Caucasus region and that speak languages which belong to Altaic or Indo-European language families, instead to Caucasian one. If you go to wikipedia they have a map of the region. So, Middle Easterners are Middle Easterners and not Caucasians.

Beyond the regional distinctions of where people originate, anything else you describe is bigotry and racism (the world's only true inexhaustable natural resource). If you don't believe you are white, then you aren't no matter what the government says on their dopey forms.

Let me give you the REAL deal about American racism:
We have something here called the "one drop" of African blood makes you black. As you know many so-called middle easterners have intermixed from time immemorial with black people. Even the original people of Arabia were black.Early South Arabian script carved in stone is kindred to Geez one of the languages of Ethiopia.Monuments from early middle eastern kingdoms show black royal figures.A modern day example would be the Crown Prince Sabah -remove his royal robes and you are talking about an African both in color and sub-saharan features.
Hordes of people in Egypt today would not have been able to get a drink of water at a whites only water fountain in the pre-1960's south. So the games about "race " continue.
The secretary of education under President Ronald Reagon was offended when a middle eastern head of state was to visit the whitehouse and he overheard them referring to them as "sand *** gers. These people here in America are insane about this thing called skin color. And for the respondent who answered you surprise ----all jews are not white! Oh if they only knew the truth about skin color that would level the playing field or drive many racists to suicide (which would be OK with me!).

By the dictionary definition Arabs and Jews are caucasion. White well that's another matter. I have lebanese freinds and egyptian freinds all are caucasions but the lebanese have white skin and all us born, no accents so are white. the egyptian family has light brown skin, parents are immigrants so occasionally they catch the grief you get. Pretty screwed up but that's amurka for you.

These people are usually Caucasians. Depending on where people lived, their skin tones may have varied, to adjust to the climate. That took many many generations to accomplish this. Likewise, take that person out of that region, his skin tone will change. But, again, over many many generations.

OK here is how a white man thinks. If you have green, blue or hazel eyes and light color hair and whit skin you are white (meaning European heritage)and because so many times in the past 50 years white people's real estate prices droped when abunch of coloredpeople and with it the drugs, gangs and violence moved in.So the white people started distanceing themself from tha t group. When somebody dosn't fit the profile, they get scared that the neigborhood price of that realestate will go down again,so they get nasty. For you to fit in you could color your hair, bleach the skin(like Michel Jackson)wear dark sunglasses to hide your brorn
eyes and drive a mercedes and you will fit in.

According to the dictionary they are but who knows. I mean no one is really white/black/brown/yellow. Its stupid terms man kind (or the white man) created to differentiate us and divide us. Look back at history.
Americans are ignorant assholes and the more segregated the town the more ignorant they are. Welcome to America!!! is what I say to people when reality hits :( sadly.
The color of your skin is always gonna matter in this country and many others. Thats reality thanks for the exploration!

The term I'd use is semitic, but Judaism is a religion, so not all Jews have the same race.
