A corps (a word that immigrated from the French language, pronounced like English "core", but originating in the Latin "corpus, corporis" meaning body; plural same as singular) is a large military unit or formation.
A corps can also represent a group of personnel with common characteristics, training, and missions, such as volunteer, humanitarian, or social-progam organizations. Some examples are the Peace Corps, Americorps, and the Mercy Corps.

dont blame the English it's a French word

I believe it's from the French.

You also don't pronounce the P in:

Marine Corps

Esprit de Corps (Spirit of the Corps)

Drum and Bugle Corps

Or likely wherever else the term Corps is used in reference to some group or team.

Because that just happens to be the way the word is pronounced, same with Army Corps of Engineers, Marine Corps, and so on.

Because it comes from the French (who do not pronounce those letters in that word) and if you did pronounce the p and s it would be a dead guy.

Because it was originally from the Latin word "corpus" but came to us via the French word "cors" and we kept the French pronunciation.

Corps is one of my favorite words.

Wolf pointed out that the singular and plural of corps are the same. Not quite, they are pronounced differently!

"corps" is the french word for body. It comes from the Latin word "corpus" or "corporis" which mean body or, heh heh, corpse.
