Yep I have the same problem, bought and old trailer from a man. And have been doing some work on it. We found mold inside the backside of the wall panels. Took down ever single wall. Nothing but studs left/ took out all insulation. but hoping we dont have to take out the ceilings. But he smell has already gotten better. But we intend to take all the insulation out from under neath the house also. But we did find mold, We also opened all the windows, for ventilation. If you have alot get a professional to remove it. Other wise you can get a spray bottle an put about 1/2 cup bleach to some soapy dish water and shake well. And spray your areas, and use some kind of a wire brush to remove it. I also suggest you wear a mask to do all of this. I have to re- do my house. I havent got the financial needs to move anywhere else. And I have my own land. So I have no choice but to get rid of the mold/ and mildew. Hope I could help..
But the first thing you need to do, is find your moisture problem or leakage. Alot of this comes from around windows, especially if they are aluminum.

Unfortunately it could be coming from most anywhere--including the space behind the walls. (Remember the footage of the post-Katrina cleanup in New Orleans? Even if the house could be saved, it had to be stripped down to the studs.)

Assuming your house hasn't been flood-damaged, I'd try pulling up the carpet, if you have any. You could also put a dehumidifier in the room, though that treats the symptom (smell) moreso than the actual mold causing the smell.

Good luck with it!

Did the ceiling get wet or leak? Did you check in the closet to see if anything might have gotten in there...like a mouse that died? Open some windows and get lots of air fresheners, maybe even sprinkle some arm & hammer baking soda on the floor (carpet) and let it set for a while then vaccum. Hope this helps

Could be inside the walls. Don't go looking for it yourself. Opening the walls up could release spores that can cause respiratory illnesses for everyone in the house, unless proper measures are taken to contain them.
Call in an expert that specializes in mold removal. They can tell you if you have mold in the 1st place, & remove it safely with the smalest amount of damage to your home. As well as fix the problem that is causing it.
Good Luck!

Tough one, but do you think it's possible that it is due to being unoccupied. There is no human scent in the room. And if you are storing stuff in there that was previously in a basement , attic, crawl, that could be smelling. I would shampoo the carpet, wash all of the sheets, dryclean the curtains, paint the room, put all stored stuff in new boxes and see if the smell remains after that.
