Many songs. This is a really imaginative question!

* We Could be Kings (Gene) takes me back to lonely times in my first year at University, wondering if I had made the right decision (and finding out that I had)

* Far From the Madding Crowds by Chicane takes me back to summer 1998 when I was a carefree undergraduate loving every minute in Brighton.

* Numerous songs remind me of my year abroad in France: All About the Money (Meja) Ugly Beautiful (Babybird) Mixing It Up (Dan Reed Network)

* Drinking in LA reminds me of my 21st birthday.

* Ring Out Solstice Bells (Jethro Tull) was my anthem of the New Millennium Christmas.

* Behind The Sun (Chicane) takes me back to carefree spring days before I started my Finals.

* Over summer and into the autumn of 2001, I got into 'cerebral rap music' (Stereo MCs etc) and 'world' music (Deep Forest, Enigma) at a time when I was starting a new job, and starting to enjoy life again having spent months unemployed.

* Christmas 2003 was lively and festive for me. Songs such as Leave Right Now (Will Young) Mario's Cafe (Saint Etienne) and Greetings from Mornington Crescent (My Life Story) remind me of these times.

* These words, unfortunately is my 'getting-beaten-up' song.

* Nothing Changes Under The Sun (Blue States) was an album I played over winter 2005, as I recovered from getting beaten up. At the same time, I also heard Ocean Drive (Lighthouse family) as I was strolling along Ocean Drive, during a very enjoyable week in Miami.

* Stick Witchu (Pussycat Dolls) I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor (Arctic Monkeys) Talk (Coldplay) JCB Song (Nizlopi) He's the Greatest Dancer (Sister Sledge) No Worries (Simon Webbe) Ugly (Sugababes) all recall happy moments last Christmas.

* Whenever I hear 'I Wanna Dance with Somebody Who Loves Me' or 'You Are Not Alone,' I am transported back to a great night recently, where I charmed my way round a young lady at a work 'do.'

Music is a great way of evoking memories and periods of your life...both bad and good.

Yes, hearing any Juan Luis Guerra song takes me back to Ecuador where I studied for a quarter in college... three of the best, most exciting, most educational months of my life! When i listen to that CD that I bought on the street there, I feel like like I can even feel the temperature and the cool mountain breeze, smell the bread cooking in the bakery, and hear the yucky men whistling at me as I walk down the road, haha. It's really incredible.

C'est la vie by Emmerson Lake & Palmer.
Back to Cape Town and 1978, when I was young. Going home after clubbing on a hot Saturday night. The city gleamed below, summer breezes blowing through the car. An absolute magic night. The only thing is I can't remember who I was with ...

There are many for me, but the following are some of my favourites...

Little Wing by Jimi Hendrix - takes me back to my last summer holidays after A-Levels before going to university. Fun, optimistic sunny days, about to begin a new adventure.

Born Slippy from Trainspotting - takes me back to nights clubbing in my first term at university. Insane drunkenness, lust, excitement.

Anything from the first 7 volumes of Cafe Del Mar - moonlit nights on the beach in Alicante looking over the Mediterranean with my girlfriend. Romantic, sigh inducing.

Come Back Down by Lifehouse - driving home after a snowboarding trip to the Alps with my girlfriend and 15 of our friends. Tiredness, laughter, big smiles and big memories all round.

There are many songs that conjure vivid memories from my life, which are really too personal to share and probably uninteresting to anyone reading.
What is interesting though, it that I find the mark of truly great music is when it can give you that strength of feeling without being linked to a personal memory.
"When the drugs don't work" by the verve and "Fix you" by Coldplay (both rather depressing examples I know!) gave me a real lump in my throat when I first heard them and still do. I think that emotion comes straight from the musicians and is somehow recorded into the music.

All of Mary J Blige's records from 1992 like "Real Love" and "Reminisce" (You Remind Me)...Old SWV songs, Xscape songs, H-Town, Jodeci, Guy, Hi-5, all the old good music from the early 90s. It takes me back to 5th or 6th grade or so when I can remember how we would put together dance routines and our teacher would let us perform them in front of the class. Life was just more fun back then and a lot less headache.

Hi,

For me there are many songs that bring back memories for me. The main reasons either being the lyrics of the song which you can relate to, or just the memory of my favourite song at that time was being played. For me, it would be "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton, which takes me back to summer of 2004 where I met a girl from Italy. Brings me mixed feelings becouse it reminds me of the distance between us. I'm only in my late teens, but almost every song I hear brings me to a memory, most bringing me back to this one. Songs are powerful.

Good question!

Remember waking up on my 18th birthday with the Power of Love by Celine Dion on the radio. I thought it had real meaning but realised when I was 19 that it meant absolutely nothing. Also remember dancing to Cotton Eye Joe in a nightclub on New Years Eve when I was pie eyed.

The song Photograph by NIckelback takes me back to my high school days and reminds me of how much fun my friends and I had and also reminds me of how we were care free and thought that we could take on the world. It is great to be taken back to a happier place and forget for a time that we are living in a captive world.

Our senses are our first and last links to time, place, and things we want to remember. Senses trigger memory. This is normal. Even people with alzheimers, even if the cant remember anything, if you give the a crayola crayon, they know Exactly what to do with it. Our mind is an amazing thing. Keep it open and allways learning and you'll never go wrong
