I usually evesdrop, and then say, i'm sorry did i hear you say...and then comment on that. or I start with a compliment, I love those shoes, where did you get them, or do you know of any good places to eat? almost anything works.....stay away from religous or political conversations until you know them.

Start with a smile and see how you go, opening lines dont have to be much more than
