I am really interested in trying that out as a career, but have no clue how to even start???Any ideas....I'm just kind of sick of nursing, and I am really good at reading people and thinking about how and what people will do...

Just as a matter of added information, I think you'll find that many PI's have some sort of investigative background that helped them making a transition from a civil service job to private. Many are ex-police officers. The state you live in regulates that kind of occupation and you must meet certain requirements to be licensed. A license is required, before you even begin a process of opening a functioning business. It would really be in your best interest to have some investigative experience. Without it, your chance of a 'profitable' success in this line of work is remote. But if you like it, you can start at the bottom....research in your state for classes to take and licensing requirements to start as a private investigator, rather than trying to jump so quickly into owning your own business. Learn the trade first.

Go to the state police barracks ( or local law enforcement) and get your background check done. Then get a business license if you plan on doing this by yourself.
Then visit an insurance agent that specializes in bonding and get bonded. (expensive)
You can then either get with a professional investigator and mentor under that person or start out on your own. If you start out on your own it is a rough road and expensive. You will need to set up an office somewhere, either in your home or elsewhere. Then find yourself some tracking software for your computer. It is VERY expensive.
A good place is to start with a bail bondsman..Work with them for a few months and see if you still want to do this. It is very menial and time consuming work. If you are looking for satisfying and rewarding work, stick to nursing.

Contact an investigator near you. They will best know the ins and outs of the business.
