I do it all the time. Open your wordprocessor. Open your PDF. Do a copy and paste from the PDF to your text document. Save the text document. Put away the PDF. You are done.
On my current version of Acrobat Reader there is (under File) a "Save as text" choice. Look at yours.
You have some little fires to fight, like text in columns, if you do it the old-fashioned way (copy and paste) and it takes a little time, but that is a low technology process if you have an old reader that gives unsatisfactory "save as text" results. Another, and this may have limits from your wordprocessor, is simply Insert File, or you may have an import feature under the File section. It often isn't hard and is getting easier everyday, but part of that depends on the functionality features of your wordprocessor. Failing that, then get the other programs.

If u have Adobe Reader, then use the Text Select tool, on the toolbar. highlight all the text (CTRL+A) then, edit copy and edit paste in to your chosen app.
If you have Adobe Acorbat Writer. Then File, Save As, Word Doc.
All this is assuming the PDF isn't protected
