>>Aerosmith and Arrowsmith
Sinclair Lewis (1885-1951) wrote Arrowsmith. Aerosmith claims that their name has no relationship to this book. According to their biography "Walk this Way", drummer Joey Kramer came up with the name in high school when coming up with cool band names. He liked names that began with "Aero" and decided that "Aerosmith" was his favorite combination.<<
for what its worth, educated guess here: the root words "aero" means- into the air, or of the air. "smith" means- works with, or crafts, uses, makes.
examples: aerosol, aerospace,, blacksmith, silversmith
using this logic, aerosmith can mean "works with the air". musicians put sound waves into the air to create music.

Aerosmith is an AWESOME band, by far MY favorite, and Wikipedia Dictionary gives this ACTUAL meaning for aerosmith...1.)Aerosmith is a prominent American rock band. Although they are known as a Boston, Massachusetts band, none of the members are actually from the city. Three of the members, Steven Tallarico (Tyler), Joe Perry, and Tom Hamilton had originally met in Sunapee, New Hampshire in the late 60's, but had not yet formed a band together. Tyler was from Yonkers, New York, Perry from Hopedale, Massachusetts, and Hamilton from New London, New Hampshire. In 1970, the three decided they would form a band together, and that Boston, Massachusetts would be the place to do it.

As ther seems to be no reference to the word in the popular online dictionaries, I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that it is a permutation of the word 'arrowsmith'. The original arrowsmiths were, in fact, just that--metal workers specializing in the fabrication of metal tips for arrows.(smithing refers to the forming of metal with blows from a hammer.)
