Sounds like a yeast infection. If this was your regular doc who prescribed the antibiotic, he or she would probably phone in a prescription for the yeast infection. There are several different creams, and even a one dose pill. The creams work better, but the pill is way nicer.

I'm a nurse, and trust me, people call in all the time after taking antibiotics to have something called in for yeast. Nothing to be embarrassed about.

But if you're really opposed to calling, there's lots of different over the counter treatments.

You could swing by the drug store & pick up a 3-day yeast infection treatment (Monistat or Gyne-Lotramin) - some come with external cream that helps control the itch; it sounds like the antibiotics you were taking messed things up for you - which is pretty normal...unfortunately. If you do get an OTC treatment, be sure to follow the directions TO THE LETTER...otherwise it won't help.

In the mean time, you should also wear cotton underpants - not thongs and not anything made from silk, satin, rayon, nylon, etc., (these materials don't breathe), looser fitting clothing (if you are normally wearing tighter jeans, etc), eat yogurt with active yeast cultures (Yoplait is a good choice) and cut down on your sugar intake for a while. Hopefully you'll be better in a few days!

You know, guys get itches down there too. And uncircumcized men can get yeast infections as well.

Stop taking so many showers it is bad for your skin. No more than 1 a day tops. And get some cream for that itch.

At least it isn't jock itch.

Or athlete's hoochie.

Did you change soaps or laundry detergent? The medicine may have interacted with something else to cause the itching.

The medication is probably still in your system. Give it a while to clear. If the itching continues, you may need to go back to your doctor to get some ointment.

It could definitely be a yeast infection like others have said - or you could just be TOO clean. Washing with soap too often can actually dry out and irritate your skin. You could try washing with only warm water once a day.

well sometimes when taking antibiotics you can get a yeast infection. So just go to a drug store and pick something up and that should help. Hope that helped some.

you took an Antibiotic, that ate all your good/bad bacteria. Don't take another! Go to health food store/grocery store heath section and find Acidophilous! It replaces good bacteria in your body. That really will help. Drink cranberry it is good for the urinary tract health. Eat less sugar to help reduce yeast in your body and always drink lots of water!

over the counter yeast infection treatment works well and in one dose - but if this is your first yeast infection - i urge you to go to the doctor - just to be sure - and anytime you get a script for an antibiotic -get your dr. to give you a script for yeast infections as well.

It's likely a yeast infection. I believe that antibiotics can actually cause them. I'm pretty sure they sell over-the-counter products for that though. Have you checked to make sure you didn't contract crabs? It's the one STD that you don't have to be sexually active to catch. Check it out and/or try the OTC medication and if your still scratching, go ahead and see the Doc again.

Good Luck & Sorry!
