I support the US effort. "Literally conquering" Afghanistan? Last time I looked the President of the nation was elected by the locals. Perhaps you don't like the results but conquering is not what happened there. Liberate from the Fascistic regime of the Taliban is more accurate. There were more than 3million refugees living on the Pakistan border before the US war began. Before a year had elapsed they had returned to Afghanistan. The UN announced it was the quickest repatriation in the history of the UN. That is a good barometer of local sentiment. I notice those refugee camps were never re-opened. Just because you don't like the way things are going doesn't mean they were without benefit to the local people.

I think it was only a cosmetic measure to get elected for a second term. There are 150,000 British and American troops in Iraq to secure its oil production. While only a few thousand NATO troops are deputed in Afghanistan. Though the population is roughly similar and Afghanistan has got much difficult terrain. Bush is an opportunist who is taking advantage of war on terror to follow his own agenda.

I have no faith in this President. I think he has a total personal agenda and Dick Cheney is an absolutely evil man to have by the President's side. The President has ONE thing that he is concerned with; the economy. While we all love a thriving economy,,,, it's costing us BILLIONS to have a thriving economy. Sort of a wash to me, no?!!
