Actually, it has been proven that information gathered via torture is some of the most unreliable information. After a certain time, the victim of torture merely states what his tortureres want him to state - not necessarily the truth.

There are interrogation methods that can bring forth the truth without torture. There are also people who will never speak regardless of what is done to them.

when a child has been kidnapped and time is of the essence. We cant wait around and make deals with people. Another scenario would be an impending terrorist attack. We are not bound by any law to not torture terrorists. The Geneva conventions does not apply to them because they do not fight for any foreign state. So they cannot be labeled a POW, because we are not at war with any nation. They also dont have any constitutional rights because they arent american citizens. If they torture of someone would save lives then we should be allowed to do it. But we also must look at the other side, they may not know, and yet if we torture them they still wont know. We must be able to prove that the person knows something about the situation that they arent telling us. Maybe a process like the one we have for the obtaining a warrant, go to a judge, present your case and them deciding whether you have enough proof.

No it should not!

It violates the Geneva Conventions, in Vietnam we got plenty of information from prisoners and captured documents, and people who are tortured are likely to tell you anything you want to hear to make it stop! Others you can torture until they are dead! What have you then accomplished?

Murder is against the law, especially when a person is a prisoner, or "detainee", a favorite Bush ploy at Gitmo until the US Supreme Court made him charge and try them!!

Torture should not be allowed for lots of reasons. One, it erases a person's human rights.
