Hey everyone,
I have a '91 Explorer and I live in the USA, and all of a sudden my gas and temp gages quit. All other gages and lights and other electrical items are all working, just those two things are the only items that do not work I would love to know what to go looking for first to solve this problem.

Thanks for the imput!

To answer the Chrysler Mechanic guy(thanks!)
The gages are analog types with dials and they are next to each other. There are 4 gages on the left of the speedometer in the same cluster, the oil pressure and apm gage are on top, and the gas and temp gages are on the bottom. All other gages and electrical stuff works correctly. Thanks for the imput so far...

I can,t recall the layout on an Explorer but are those two gages next to each other or one on top of the other? If they are next to each other then I would suspect that you may have a problem within your instrument cluster causing both gages to act up.The reason I think this is because the fuel sending unit (the part that sends a signal as to the amount of fuel in the tank) is located inside the fuel tank and the temperature sending unit (the part that sends a signal as to the temperature of the engine) is located on the engine. So for both gages to be malfunctioning at the same time I would look for the place where these two have a common connection and that would be your instrument cluster. Bottom line unless you have a pretty fair amount of experience with checking electrical circuitry and have the wiring diagrams then you may want to take it to a dealer or a good independent shop to have it diagnosed and corrected.

Valvoline with a quart of Lucas oil therapy in the journey that your going to stay with wide-spread oil , finished synthetic will a great deal cut back the indoors friction and amplify bearing existence . I certainly have rebuilt some vehicles that have been working with Lucas and you will possibly desire to tell the "monkey snot" grew to become into doing its job and a powerful one at that . at the same time as synthetic fee extra it desires to be substitute at 5000 miles particularly of 3000 miles so the fee is concerning to the comparable . in case you keep your oil replaced religiously it wont be your bearings that fail inspite of the undeniable fact that it would be your rings that ultimately positioned on out . it truly is once you recognize you acquire your moneys properly worth from a motor .
