I do have endometriosis but i dont think that has anything to do with this. Between 7-10 days before my period, I feel so depressed to the point where I feel like a completley different person! I don't want to go anywhere, go to work, talk to anyone, I sometimes cry for no reason and I also get very negative and irritable. I take 75mgs of effexor for anxiety (which runs in my family; my mom and my sister both take the same medication for the same reason) so you would think that the meds would help my PMS but it doesn't seem to be. I can't imagine what I would be like w/out the effexor - now that would be scary. My PMS is so bad that it effects my daily life, my family, my work and my relationships with others. What can I do? I really HATE IT more than anything. Having endometriosis pain is bad enough - adding the mental on top of it is just awful. Somedays I just want to throw in the towel, run off and hide. Please help!

I am so sorry. I hope you are being fully treated for your endometriosis. If not make sure your doctor knows everything about how you feel with your illness and your ups and downs. It is not unusual for someone who is in pain and sick to get depressed. It would be best if you could get an appointment with a psychiatrist and discuss this and also your need for counseling. This is not your fault and is very common when people are not doing well like you are. The psychiatrist can help guide you in a path that will help you deal with this. Usually most insurance companies let you self refer yourself call them and ask. You need support right now for both your illness and the mental toll your illness is taking on you. I hope you feel better soon. I am so sorry. Please be kind to yourself this happens to people with all kinds of problems from back problems to cancer to MS and everything in between. It is very common to be ill and depressed at the same time. You just have to work on both.

It's the fluctuation in hormone levels. While you are taking Effexor for anxiety, unfortunately because you take it EVERY day, it will not help to alleviate the depression - since it is regulating your NORMAL brain chemical function - not accounting for the increase/reduction in estrogen that women get.

You should talk to your doctor about getting a new occasional Rx or maybe discuss the use of a homeopathic treatment (Calmes Forte or St Johns Wort are good temporary drugs - check with your local health food store for suggestions).
I know that there was a new drug recently released to the market for severe PMS symptoms - you should check to see if your symptoms qualify as "severe."

BTW, I have very similar PMS depression - cry for no reason, fly off the handle, complete lack of motivation, etc. You are describing very common side effects of PMS.

Good luck.

Hormones, try Midol it may help or ask to be put on the pill it helped me out with my mood swings, though it ended up giving me cramps, which is something I never got until I took the pill.

Hormones are a strange thing! My period causes me to be emotional, clumsy, moody, h0rny, easily distracted, and really tired. I also get headaches, cramps, and even sometimes diarrhea. : (

PMS. Your hormones are raging. You may need to get your doctor to change your medicine if it's not helping you.
