Yes ovaries alternate if they are functioning. Some women drop multiple eggs.

There is no rhyme nor reason to which side will release an egg. Both ovaries will start to swell in preparation to release an egg. Sometimes the right will release an egg first and sometimes the left. It does not matter which side released an egg first the last month.

So you can have one side be the one for three or four months before the other side gets a turn.

It's random. They do not necessarily alternate.

As you approach ovulation, a number of follicles form on the ovaries. Each follicle contains an egg. At some point, one follicle becomes the "lead" follicle, and continues to grow, while the others disappear. This is a way of choosing the best potential egg out of the candidates for this month, although scientists aren't completely sure how the "winning" follicle is selected.

I'm one of the lucky few who get regular ovulation pains. Usually the ovaries take turns switching each month. On a couple occassions I've actually felt both of them fire at onec or within a couple hours so I'm guessing that would be where unidentical twins come from. Most women don't feel ovulation though so if you have no clue what we mean by twinges or pains, don't worry, that's normal.

Unless there is something interfering they typically alternate every other month.

Yes, they alternate. That's why you get a 'cramp' in your lower right, or left, ---down low--it's like a twinge and you go "ouch" and then it's gone. I think to let you know which side.

There you go!!
