My own view is that discovery is the coming accross things that are already there and an invention is something which has been created by someone or something that utilises a discovery!!!!
Like , the invention of the transistor and the discovery of the molecular structure of DNA

This is a thought provoking question!!
When someone invents a theory of the evolution of the universe, is s/he discovering the theory?
Another question. Do you invent the solutions to a problem? Or do you discover it? Is the solution already there, and you just pounce upon it? Or is it that you made the solution on yourself so it is an invention?

Invention means you thought up something and put it into form. Discovery means it was there already and you came upon it.
