How do I find out if a person is still alive?

I'm looking for Elizabeth Crisler who married James Wooley and lived in northern California when I last heard.

You can check the Social Security Death Index on the web, but when you go to type in the name, if it doesn't show up, it COULD possibly mean she is still alive.

I typed in my brother's name who died over 20 years ago, and he isn't on the index and I don't know why. But it's worth a try.

I guess I'm just questioning the accuracy of the index.

Try looking on Ancestry.Com. They have a Social Security death index. I think you can access it without signing up for the service. Once you're dead your social security number is no longer private and the site lists: Name, Soc, Last Address (City, County, State), and Date of Death ... if I remember correctly.

easy peazy lemon squeezy. Go to the Social Security Death Index. It is free. Plug in their names. If the person is dead, then their information will be public. If the person is still living, then you will not be able to find their name here. Good Luck!
